I'm having a similar problem. I gave the regular trader 4 gears... twice, and it never marked anything on my map, nor did it give me a map. I gave a tin bronze pickaxe to a treasure hunter (there's like 3 around me) and he says "here's a map" but doesn't give me a map. There's room in my inventory. edit: I just saved my world, closed out Vintage Story, came back, and it gave me the option "I gave you the bronze pickaxe, tell me what you know..." and now he gave me the map.
