This seems very impressive, I started playing recently and used to play on a minecraft earth map and googled to see if anyone did that on Vintage story. Low and behold you've done it very recently, so that was cool to see lol.
I'm quite curious to actually explore the map but at the moment I don't really see how I could practically do it. The waypoints/map as you've mentioned don't seem to work for some as you've said earlier, I can see on the wiki https://wiki.vintagestory.at/Special:MyLanguage/Worldmap , it says there are Maps in the VintagestoryData/Maps. I assume they correspond to the saves based off the dates of the files I have. So maybe we'd need a corresponding map file from you to actually see the map and the waypoints?
Also again not experienced in how this all works but you say that the map is 30k x 60k, is that the loaded sections of the map? Cause I do see in the settings1024000x256x1024000, I am guessing that's how far you can theoretically go like in the normal game but you've personally developed the 30k x 60k, figured I'd ask just as a bit of personal curiosity. 40 gig would probably be around 30k x 60k so I'm fairly sure I already know, based off the fact a Minecraft earth map I have of similar size takes up around the same amount of storage . But would just like to confirm.
Another question I had was you said it took years to build in game, I assumed if you were using world painter, what did you have to do in game to help make the world?
Any questions you can answer it appreciate I am genuinely interested in this, thanks. Also hope you have a Merry Christmas lol.
Also one last question lol, is it possible to make an Earth map with the edges cut off so you don't accidentally generate new terrain?
