New player here. It probably depends on where you live in the world, but for me, this couldn't be father from the truth. I can literally drive 5 minutes to a nearby river with a shovel and find more red clay than I could in the same amount of time in vintage story. It's hard to spot, maybe, but you can dig almost anywhere and get some.
