You feel attacked? I hope you don't have any hard feelings here my guy, I don't mean you any ill will. Please stop trying to smooth over the damage that was done. You're writing paragraphs of rhetoric speaking of their valour and humility in response to someone saying they're disappointed with these very clearly irresponsible and harmful choices that were made for a year now. You're not steering the conversation persuasively despite the efforts you have made. I've been a tremendous fan of this game and post about it a lot. I can't bring myself to join my server and play Vintage Story right now. I'm pretty upset with how this happened and how it's dealt with. This community has poor moderation policies and the terrible behavior of people suggesting things like "only cheaters would support this" and calling people R-slurs should be dealt with. This isn't the behavior of a noble group of indie game devs.

They should put something in the game that links to a full apology for the malware they allowed in the game. I don't care about people cheating, I would not care if people I was playing with were cheating and have zero desire to interact with people who are all up in arms about cheating. I have a serious problem with people putting malicious software in games though. This is very not-cool. "If you don't like being harmed well that's on you" … no the company fundamentally violated people's trust, allowed malicious code in their game, and continues to sidestep it instead of being honest and addressing their behavior and the toxic people involved. This isn't a stylistic preference for things being a certain way, eg not enough like Minecraft. This is the company hiring and defending people who put malware in a game. It's not suddenly good to put malware in something because they are a smaller company. I can't go shut down a hospital power grid because I'm a janitor, it's still malicious.

I'm just finding out about this now, since Reddit and Discord are entirely too toxic for me to handle. It's really disappointing that there's no message in the game that direct users to the very clear and concise apology and ownership for this behavior, not that this exists so far as I've seen. I'm really disappointed in how this has been handled. I was checking in here to see if there's any way to filter out shit AI mods yet because my enjoyment of this game is drastically reduced due to all the terrible mods that are being released; and here we are with Devs injecting malicious code into their works too. I'm sure there's a whole crew of toxic supporters to hold you up but you really lost me here with the poor messaging, lack of disclosure, community problems, and failure to adequately address the problem.

I've been targeted by hateful AI systems. It's personally affected me. Why do I need to come into every place on the web and get inundated with hateful technology that has actually harmed and continues to harm me? I want to play a fun game, not have my consent violated. My health and wellbeing (like anyone elses) are more important than some user-contributed AI code. That's the important thing that I feel people aren't getting here. The people who complain about AI aren't fools, some people are being actively being harmed and killed by this technology, by the very people who created the tools everyone uses. We're not talking about whether someone likes PHP or Ruby, we're talking about actual harm to actual people, and why this is important to long-lasting communities. There's no debating whether it's harming people.

I'd really like to enjoy playing this game without interacting with AI-anything. That means muting mods that use AI, muting users that use AI, and muting forum posts trying to edge people into using AI. I want nothing to do with AI while playing this game. I am trying to play this game to take a break from technofascism and I really don't appreciate debates about whether or not community safety features should be added. Please add community safety features to allow people trying to enjoy this game to do so.
