All my friends have bought the game and every day I SOB playing this game its soo good. Its like staring at the every piece of art stored in every museum condensed into one beautiful game. I play 16 hours a day (8 hours for sleep so i can enjoy the game in a maximum state of mind) I CANNOT get ENOUGH. I have liquidated my 401k to give to a team of inventors and coders to create a nueral interface so i can upload myself into the game, when this happens even though I haven't heard from them in a few months will be a JOYOUS DAY of CELEBRATION!

This game is amazing!!!!! I have been playing almost non stop of course gotta take care of myself lol haven't gone that far haha!! But yeah I'm very happy with my purchase just the other night I got my first wolf and Bear kills and for my first bear kill it dropped a skin with the head still attached so safe to say in honor of the Mighty as I deemed her Yogi Bear I will have her as a trophy rug for my home!!! she attacked me out by my farm which is practically on my front porch lol!!! So its been a blast and a half thus far haven't done multiplayer yet nor joined the discord but do very much plan to!! This is an AMAZING game I definitely recommend it very good price as well!!! Now if you'll please excuse me I've gotta go die in a hole!!!! [that's become my catchphrase in this game BTY not actually gonna die in a hole lol] 😄

This game truly hit the nail on the head when it comes to hardcore survival mixed with realism and eldritch horror.

Building, metalworking, farming, cooking are so nicely done yet logical at the same time. Mechanical power is what made me say the game is peak cinema. I had to look into gear ratios and understand how a gearbox works in order to make the windmill power multiple machines for our village automation.

The game is a true gem, and with more updates coming I can already see existing features just becoming even greater.

10/10 I would buy it again with no sweat.

Utterly fantastic. Simultaneously the most Minecraft game I've played that isn't Minecraft, and really extremely not Minecraft. You will die. A lot. You will suffer. A lot. You will learn to fear the night. You will learn to fear the forest. You will learn to fear the wolves. You will learn to fear winter itself. And then you build yourself a home and get metal tools and the world opens up, and those wolves and bears become your prey, but the caves are still dark and full of terrors. But hey, your house is becoming VERY pretty!

Also there's lore and stuff but I'm too much of a coward to go check out the story content, I hear the dungeons are even more painful.

Do you remember your first night in Minecraft, as the sun sets and you've barely assembled some shoddy wooden tools (if even) and a makeshift shelter; hearing the groans and footsteps of foul things outside your hut, scared shitless as a kid? That feeling fades fast as you learn the game, acquire gear that trivializes your foes, and the game expands into a much more open-ended and creative experience rather than a survival one. Food is managed in days, equipment makes you godlike, potions and items make you immortal.

Vintage Story captures the essence of that first night, the fear, the uncertainty, the unknown, and through my ~50 hours of gameplay has not relented in that for a moment.

VS is a hardcore survival experience, but it's not just hardcore, it's authentic and true to life. Everything you do in this game feels so purposeful in it's execution and so rewarding to complete. This will be first apparent when you make your first tool, a simple stone knife, to turn your stone and stick into a workable tool you have to lay your rock on the ground, and then carefully chip away at the stone piece by piece until you have carved out your desired tool shape from the rock. It's such a cool mechanic and an excellent look into what this game will be as you progress. You will have to work for everything in this game, nothing is given to you freely, every tool, piece of armour, block of material, piece of infrastructure, it will all be through your deliberate effort, understanding, and patience that you will achieve it. It can be a little tedious, but to achieve anything in this game feels monumental and very rewarding. Obtaining your first metal tool is a massive multi-step process that would take paragraphs to explain, but to finally pour the metal into your first mold was euphoric. This game expects you to think, it expects you to be patient and learn, but it's never overbearing. Progression is slow but impactful, and every new piece of equipment, infrastructure, or tool will make surviving that much easier.

To go over all the mechanics would be an insurmountable task in one review, so just know that every process in this game has the same love and care put into it as that very first stone tool you have to knap from stone. Everything has been so precisely designed to feel rewarding in the same way as carving your first knife.

Beyond the base mechanics, it has a very in-depth terrain generation system that creates these really stunning landmarks, from massive oceans to towering tiered mountains, gravel hills and thick forests. The shrubbery in this game is honestly the best I've seen in any game, actual thick shrubbery that covers the ground and blocks your sight and sometimes your movement, the environment really feels alive in this game. The animals have unique behaviours, hunt eachother (and you) for food, have small packs/herds, will run when injured, fight harder when hungry or their children are threatened, and lots of other little details you'll pick up on as you play.

If you play the default experience, you'll also be placed into a world that is much much older than you. Ancient ruins crumbling and sinking into the mud dot the surface, and deep underground you'll find more complete structures carved into the stone itself. Scraps of lore, books and scrolls, tapestries, paintings, and the little you can gleam from the traders will help you piece it together, none of the story is just simply given. Though if you want to learn more than just scraps, you'll have to venture to expansive dungeons and breathtaking locations hand-crafted, wonderfully designed, and utterly fatal to uncover more.

It doesn't seem it on the outset, but this game has some very intense horror elements. The horrible creatures are incredibly well-designed and still make me freak the fuck out whenever I encounter them, the old places of the world feel eerie and desolate, and the dungeons you can encounter will lay on the stress and atmosphere until you are cautiously checking every corner and corridor.

All in all, an amazing game that's captured me and it's hard to write something that really encapsulates the experience. They have a very generous return policy, within 2 weeks/10 hours of playtime, so if you're on the fence I'd say buy it, play a couple hours, you'll fall in love and if you don't you can always return it.

I love it!!

I love how nice and detailed the building is (if you want it to be) and the survival aspect of the game. I've been looking for a survival game like this for ages! The learning curve is pretty engaging too.

At first I was sceptical about the game as I came from other major survival games where there are cool equipment and bosses, but after I bought and played this, I can't stop. If you are adult this is perfect game as the progression are slow. This games make progression feels more rewarding and more meaningful as you have to work for it. I am happy with this purchase and would like to support the developer and team. Keep up the great work!

I'm very surprised by this game. It's very relaxing to play but sometimes terrifying to say the least. The the thing i love the most are the wolfs and bears jumping on you from bushes when you don't expect anything at the moment just listening to the awesome soundtrack of this game.It has nicely paced progression, very intuitive and realistic. There are a lot of small details that you find and admire and also a lot of features that took more time than you would think(customization is crazy). You are given the handbook that guides you as you play so you don't need to constantly check tutorials on the internet which destroys the immersion for me.Finding ores in this game is also brilliant and very refreshing and it became one of my favourite things to do.In my opinion this game has huge potential and can become very popular. It has some missing features and some need a bit of polishing but overall the game is great!

I first saw the game in what feels like forever ago in YouTube Thumbnails. In the beginning I was unsure if it was just a "rip-off" of Minecraft- boy was I wrong :D After installing and kindly asking (forcing) a friend to play with me on a server I rented, I was blown away. Over barely half a month the server lists a playtime of over 200 hours, not counting all the testing in singleplayer and the reading of sourcefiles (which is incredible, to be able to peek inside much of the settings and code).

The game is not even "beat" yet (we just arrived in the iron age), but we have already researched mods and planned out another massive playthrough.

All in all: If you are unsure wheter or not to get the game, I´d say go for it and let your mind be blown. The developers and the style of development are incredibly open to modding and customization, the community is surprisingly kind and welcoming and the game itself is continously evolving and getting better and better.

I found out about Vintage Story through TFC for Minecraft. I'm leaving this review for anyone who was like me- enjoying that modpack, and wanting more from it. This game was everything I wanted from TFC. So if you're on the fence like I was, take the plunge! The refund policy is pretty generous.

There is just so much to do in this game. Everything you have to work for is a long path to follow, but I take great joy in that. It feels great to see all the work you're putting in come to fruition. The monsters provide some difficulty to me, but the world can be customized prior to creation to change how enemies/antagonistic mobs affect you. Playing peacefully or just on a more casual level is possible, and there's dedicated commands to change certain settings after world creation, which I appreciate immensely. Not to mention the built-in mod manager in the game, allowing you to further customize your experience.

The lore is intriguing, encouraging the player to keep pushing forward. The handbook will give you a guideline of what you should do, but you can make your own decisions once you know enough to. There's so much to the building too, more than I've seen in a game like this before. I'm impressed with just how in-depth it is.

I enjoy this game a lot so far, and as far as I can tell the dev team is still actively working on improving the game, and adding new features. I'm very happy with my purchase!

I've only had this game for about two days, so take this review with that in mind, however I can't stop playing it. It's aesthetically beautiful in its simplicity, but it's apparent simplicity misleads you when you find out how deep the mechanics of this game goes. I'm constantly surprised by the depth of this game's mechanics when it comes to crafting, farming, and animal domestication. I have barely scratched the surface with combat and uncovering the lore. This game feels like a living world in which you are a guest and it's up to you to discover all that this world has to offer you. I'm doing my best to avoid using the guides and looking up information online because it's so much fun learning how to do things on your own. Going from someone who only knows how to pick up a stick and throw a rock to learning how to make stone tools and shelter and how to cook food and hunt to discovering how to create pottery and begin to enter the metal ages. All of these discoveries and successes all while trying to survive against the environment. It has been very fun for me so far and I highly recommend it to anyone interested.
