A lot of fun, both with friends and by yourself. The game is very pretty and every little bit of progress feels very rewarding. It dulls over time like anything else, but still worth it.

Satisfying gameplay loop with beautiful ambiance. The world feels alive in a way that few other survival sandbox games do. Extensive mod support and difficulty settings make the game very accessible despite the depth of it's survival mechanics.

For those who are on the fence or think this game is better to watch than to play (I hear that one a lot) — borrow a friend's account and give it a few hours. Jump on a server with an active playerbase and let someone show you the ropes.

I've been playing for years and I'm still discovering new mechanics and features. Honestly, very few games get this kind of ongoing developer support. Huge respect to the devs for actually listening to the community — it shows. Special shoutout for the mod support and the incredibly well-designed modding system. The community pumps out an insane amount of quality mods, and many of them have already made their way into the base game as core mechanics.

I host servers pretty often. Managing them is a breeze compared to the competition — not even close.

Yes, the game has a learning curve. It kept pushing my friends away no matter how hard I tried to get them hooked. But once you're past that wall, you're not getting out. So many possibilities, so many ideas, and full immersion in the process — your time just disappears. I get an absurd amount of enjoyment out of every single run, even doing something as simple as harvesting carrots in autumn. The effort-to-reward balance is just right, and it constantly keeps you wanting more. The game also has this unique, cozy almost homey vibe to it — but when it wants to test you, it absolutely will.

Just browse the screenshots on Discord or Reddit and see what people are pulling off in this game. Absolutely jaw-dropping stuff.

I didn't mention any downsides — either they're bugs that'll get fixed, or they're features that aren't fully baked yet and will be reworked eventually.

Bottom line: this game is worth every penny — just don't play it solo if you can help it. Twice the fun with company. Praise Dave!

I've been absolutely thrilled with this game. I've played many hours now, and it was so exciting and scary the first night, trying my best to hide in a dirt hut, unaware of what could be in the dark! then the bravery to venture out to find food.

The further you go, the more confident you are! and the most HELPFUL tool that tells you how to make and craft stuff! I love the system of animal husbandry, the way you have to breed the animals to a certain generation for them to trust you and ultimately be tamed. every little thing i'd do, I would get so excited learning something new, and having to take time with building. and even NOW there are things that i learn. This game is AWESOME. it's not easy, but it isn't unfair, and I think that's very honorable.

I've already got two people into the game after I played, and it was amazing teaching them the ropes.

so do you like harder games? full of nature and wonder? want to search the unknown and see what you can survive?

Building, hunting, farming, all so realistic. this is the game for you!! ❤️

Honestly you could employ these bears opposed to humans for security with how effective they are at making an area inaccessible.

As for the rest of the game with also considering the lore and the overhaul design, it really shines as its own outlier in the survival genre and could honestly be one of the best I played.

Thank you Tyron and the rest of the team, for making me experience the first time Minecraft feel for the second time around. (Also will be mailing invoices for the PTSD your bears caused)

Vintage story is genuinely one of the best games I’ve ever played.

The sheer depth of all the different mechanics and systems make progression hard, but rewarding. I also find some actions satisfying and calming such as pottery or forging.

People are discouraged because the game isn’t on steam, and I was too. But holy this was the best purchase of my life.

The game doesn’t hold your hand, the only guide you have is the ingame handbook (which is so informative, props to the devs)

So yeah, vintage story. Buy it.

This game fucking sucks and I want a refund as soon as possible please. Reason why the game sucks: Can't fucking install latest updates because despite already being logged into my account right now, it asks me to log into my account again to grab the latest update, yet despite entering in all of the correct login information and doing the Captcha successfully, it fails to let me log in and download the latest update, DESPITE I'M LITERALLY ALREADY LOGGED IN? What the actual fuck dude. Fix your fucking broken shit, devs. I hate buying a broken ass fucking game.

This game is ingeniously amazing. I don't even use that word often, nor do I think this would be the right word to explain it. I don't want to bring Minecraft into this but it's the game I've been playing since 2011 and can only compare it to that. If you know Terrafirmacraft mod, it's reminiscent of that. You really get to feel like you're progressing when you upgrade your weapons, or in other words, your hard work shows and man is it satisfying. I also simply adore the building for this game. It's very flexible and once I found out you can chisel blocks, it sent me down the nostalgia road of the Chisels & Bits mod from MC. If there's even a flicker of hesitation, still get this game and try it for yourself (you can refund). The devs are amazing, and their effort brings this game to life.

This Vintage Story is the best thing I've ever seen and played... tip: watch out for bears and wolves when you're collecting things. 😛

Everything about it is perfect. I can only describe it as a miracle creation, something came together... the elements aligned... It is like the comets, the cosmic orchestra that is up there over your head... The immense, enormous void is working all for one thing, to tell you one thing...

Gas and rock, and purity, and nothing.

I will say this... When I see Vintage Story... and I mean every single time I look at the lines, the colors, the shapes that make up the world...

I see perfection.

Do I find perfection in many things?

Some things, I would say... Some things are perfect... and this is one of them. I can look at the little tuft of hair on Erel's head... it is the perfect shade... The flickering blue gear in the Seraph’s hand...
How could mere mortals even MAKE this?

Vintage Story stands out to me as a great survival game because it refuses to hand‑hold you, and that’s exactly what makes it brilliant. Its survival systems aren’t just “features” — they’re interconnected layers that demand attention, experimentation, and actual problem‑solving. Everything has weight and consequence. Food spoils, seasons matter, metallurgy is a genuine craft, and even basic tools feel earned rather than given.

What makes it feel like the perfect survival game to me is how these mechanics create a world that pushes back just enough to make every victory meaningful, no matter how small. You don’t just survive in Vintage Story — you learn it, adapt to it, and eventually thrive because you understand how its systems fit together.

For people who want a survival experience that respects their intelligence and rewards curiosity, Vintage Story is in a league of its own.

I don´t like survival games without a deep story, so when I played Minecraft in creative mode, I found that this game is different from the story; you can do things that are real and learn something new about how we made bronze or other things. Yeah, you can be irritated by some aspects, but in the end, it has its own charm. As a programmer in Unity and Unreal Engine, I have to admire how perfectly this game is made on its own engine.

This game has really brilliant ideas and mechanics that I really love and i hope to change my review in future because at the moment it is negative, it is not normal that you have to make hundreds of clicks to make the most simple objects, if you want 3 chests you could get tendinitis. When after 30 hours I had the materials to make my objects but i choose, different times, to go in creative and take the objects from there I understood that there was a problem. (And i played the game with a lot simplified settings because from the tutorial i would always have starved to death simply because i spawned in an area without mushrooms or berries)

I tend to be a very picky gamer, or play a game for a bit and then never touch it again. Not the case with Vintage Story. I've had the game for a couple of years, now, and I can safely say it is my most reliably played, most thoroughly enjoyed, and most frequently played game.

Almost every world I create ends up with hundreds of hours in it, and I've had over a dozen worlds, at this point. I have easily put 3500 or more hours into this game, and I will be putting many, many more in, for many years into the future.

This game is also one of few I have bought several copies of, just to give to my friends.2024-08-30_16-50-34.thumb.png.e6f5404a19d4b52e28c752a5579267aa.png2025-02-09_15-29-58.thumb.png.9ff2e38e517683695cfee37aea871a46.png2025-03-16_16-38-04.thumb.png.81b54c9959753b410c895dd36f1ec08b.png
