GrauerWald Posted June 23, 2023 Report Posted June 23, 2023 (edited) Hello all, Add me to the list of folks which Vintage Story has recently gotten its claws into. I have been hooked and then some. One of my favorite things about the game is the realistic ambience created by all of the natural sounds: the wind rustling grass and leaves, thunder, heavy rainfall in the forest. It's a feast for the ears. I most often find myself playing without music, but music can also add to the overall atmosphere. For those times, there is a certain mood/flavor of music I usually prefer. Sharing music is always something I have enjoyed, so I thought it would be fun to share some suggestions and also hear what others enjoy listening to while they indulge in their own vintage wanderlust.MiktekHelios - UnomaHelios - EingyaH.U.V.A. Network - BlankConnect.Ohm - 9980Sync24 - Comfortable VoidCarbon Based Lifeforms - Hydroponic GardenCryochamber - Songs For an Empty World Eguana - Invisible Civilization Unknown Reality - GaiaStellardrone - Echoes Most of the above artists have their music hosted on YouTube channels which feature a lot of similar music. So if you hear something you like, you might consider digging into specific channels, such as The Psychedelic Muse. Last and far from least, I wanted to share the incredible website My Noise. This site features sound generators with adjustable sliders, intended for creating custom soundscapes. Here are a few that I feel suit Vintage Story well: The PilgrimTwin Black LodgesSpace OdysseyMr.RhodesTake It Easy MyNoise is one of my favorite websites. If you're unfamiliar, I highly recommend exploring the available soundscapes. If you'd like to make your own, a small donation will grant you access to all of the sounds and additional features. I am not associated with myNoise, I am just interested in sharing it with others. It is truly a joy. So, what do you think of my suggestions? What do you like to use to set the mood while you adventure? I look forward to hearing from folks. Cheers Edited June 23, 2023 by GrauerWald 4 1
DatDot1337 Posted March 12, 2025 Report Posted March 12, 2025 Wildly late, as I only just recently got into Vintage Story, but the Disco Elysium soundtrack. More specifically the quieter, slower songs. I imagine Ecstatic Vibrations, Totally Transcendent would probably shatter any immersion into the game, but songs like La Revocholiere and Live with Me work well. or if your in a cave or some such, We Are Not Checkmated and The Field Autopsy are good at keeping you on edge. Now to come back in a year and a half and see what the next person posts. 1
Broccoli Clock Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 (edited) I love music, I've literally seen 1000s of acts live and travelled 10s of thousands of miles to go to festivals, gigs, etc. (Edit: I should have mentioned this without an edit, but the genre of music from @GrauerWald's first post is right up my alley, and in fact I've seen some of those artists live) However, in games, music is immediately turned off. There is not a single game I can think of that is improved by having music in it. I appreciate this is r/unpopularopinion stuff, and that most will disagree, but I find music in game ruins immersion considerably. I wish to hear my environment, not music that takes me out of it. I've tried to explain to others how I feel and the best way to describe it is having someone else talk loudly in one ear while you try to play a game. Ironically, when I'm coding I need music to keep me going, my ADHD will immediately shut off unless it's assaulted by a very high BPM. It's literally the reverse situation when playing games. Agreed, at least for the most part. I’ve been playing with the frequency on the second-lowest setting, and even that’s too high; songs frequently get cut off by my going into caves. I’ll probably adjust it back to the minimum later, and having considered it, I’ll probably adjust the volume down too.

I've told people that I immediately turn off the music in lots of games, only to be met with the sort of reaction I'd get if I had literally taken a giant sh~ right in front of them and their kids.
Daev Posted March 13, 2025 Report Posted March 13, 2025 It depends really on the kind of game. HD2 I blast heavy metal and rock to really get into crushing foes of Democracy. Vintage story and similar are games I never listen to music, but I'll maybe turn on a podcast if I'm grinding for something and I decide it is a tad boring. Definitely interested in checking out some of these suggestions, might change my mind on the idea!
