Tippers Posted November 4, 2023 Report Posted November 4, 2023 I am playing on an m1 MacBook Air and the game won't launch... I've got my Mac to let the program to run but the when launch it only shows up in the dock for maybe a second and then disappears. 2
odyseus1566 Posted December 27, 2023 Report Posted December 27, 2023 I am having similar problem. Last version that works for me is 1.18.7. I believe the devs are looking into it. I will wait for 1.19.0 release, if it will work by then.
MartasW Posted October 20, 2024 Report Posted October 20, 2024 Same here, do we have any solution so far?

MartasW Posted October 20, 2024 Report Posted October 20, 2024 (edited) So the final step I have to made was to run it as Manual start. Thank you Brady_The Edited October 20, 2024 by MartasW 1
LottiPavarotti Posted January 24, 2025 Report Posted January 24, 2025 Is there a fix for this yet? I just downloaded the game and followed all the steps to manual start and it's still not opening...
vanthrax Posted February 15, 2025 Report Posted February 15, 2025 Any fix? It look like people have been having this problem for like two years... I just bought and was excited to play but can't get it to work. I got this specifically because it said it ran on mac so this is kind of a bummer..
vanthrax Posted February 15, 2025 Report Posted February 15, 2025 Okay I figured it out by extracting the contents off the app and running the exec file in the terminal. You need to install a microsoft framework for playing games that does not come native on Macs. It's called the .NET 7.0 runtime, and you can copy paste the link from the terminal window for the version you need. Happy playing! Aiden Holmertz Posted August 6, 2025 Report Posted August 6, 2025 How? I am completely lost since I have never tried anything like this before

They actually link to it on the page where you downloaded the game itself. Vanthrax mentioned it above, but now it's .net 8 instead of .net 7.

Thought .net 8 would be added at 1.21, it even says so in the update notes. hmmm
Parenn Posted August 10, 2025 Report Posted August 10, 2025 It’s 7 for the stable release, still (or at least it works with 7, since I’ve not upgraded it).

This is how I understood it as well but toms comment and the download page make me think otherwise now. I find it strange that they never explicitly mentioned switching versions for the current stable edition. The release for 1.21 mentions the switch in the update notes but nothing for 1.20, unless I missed something else. 9 hours ago, Tom Cantine said: Yeah, I was lazy in my answer, sorry. No worries, my eyes are broken or lazy, I swear it said .net7 when I downloaded but yeah, just checked and see that it does refer to .net 8. Wiki has yet to be updated.
Gourdidi Posted October 6, 2025 Report Posted October 6, 2025 I FOUND THE ISSUE for some reason the download changed the name to Vintage Story.app not vintagestory.app after i redid all the steps in the terminal it finaly worked i hope this was usefull btw you can change the name of the vintagestory.app by control clicking then clicking info then name of subject then rename to vintagestory.app
Johan Haglund Posted October 20, 2025 Report Posted October 20, 2025 I'm having the same issues. I've installed what I believe to be the correct .net 8 runtime, and I just get the 'open and close' of the app icon. Can't run it in terminal. There I get the message: Quote You must install .NET to run this application. App: /Applications/vintagestory.app/Vintagestory Architecture: x64 App host version: 8.0.16 .NET location: Not found Learn more: https://aka.ms/dotnet/app-launch-failed Download the .NET runtime: https://aka.ms/dotnet-core-applaunch?missing_runtime=true&arch=x64&rid=osx-x64&os=osx.15&apphost_version=8.0.16 Which I don't understand because all I've done all evening is install, uninstall and reinstall .net...
Lolli Posted December 27, 2025 Report Posted December 27, 2025 I have just downloaded this game and it will not open, ive followed all steps suggested including downloading .NET in the latest version but nothing is working, i am on a mac so it just shows the application bouncing in the sidebar then disappears. i would appreciate any help i can get.

You don't want the latest version for VS, you'll want .NET 8 specifically. Specifically specifically the x64 version for macOS, NOT the ARM/Apple Silicon version. Edited December 27, 2025 by Diff
