Krougal Posted October 24, 2024 Report Posted October 24, 2024 I really don't know what to call this. So right now things stop working in your base when you go out and about. Minecraft solution to that was chunk loaders, which bring their own set of problems. 7 Days to Die handles it by keeping track of how long fire was burning/crafting job was running/etc and updating it when you come back. So you leave a campfire full of food cooking with a few hours of fuel. You go away for an hour. The server calculates how long it was running and how much of the job should be done and how much fuel burned, so on and so forth. It's just storing some data and doing some simple math as opposed to keeping extra chunks loaded. 1
TamTroll Posted October 25, 2024 Report Posted October 25, 2024 does the game not do that already? I've gone on multi-day adventures away from my base and come back to find my crops have grown appropriately in that time.
Krougal Posted October 25, 2024 Author Report Posted October 25, 2024 I am really not sure, I also don't know what the range is for unloading chunks. I use the campfire as an example for 7DTD but it isn't good for VS since who goes out and leaves food cooking when it is going to rot. The pulverizer and quern stop working. I am not sure about the timers on anything else, I know wild crops will not grow while you are out of range. My treetaps (mod) don't seem to fill either. Nor do wild bees swarm into skeps.
Maelstrom Posted October 25, 2024 Report Posted October 25, 2024 (edited) Most things update and others don't. I will confirm that wild bees WILL swarm into skeps while the chunk is unloaded. On multiple occasions the closest hive I've founds is over 1,000 blocks away. Drop a skep and flowers come back a month or two later and I have a populated skep to take home. Wild crops don't grow at ALL. Well, they do; but at a geologically slow pace. I saw a Utoober wait for a wild crop next to his home grow before harvesting. It took over 1 year in game to advance just ONE stage. Don't bother waiting for them to do so, just harvest what's there and keep on running. Edited October 26, 2024 by Maelstrom 2
