On the Sod Roofing the part under it is made of wooden planks, because it's crafting uses wooden planks, this makes sense indeed.
But, on this and on many other buildings are made from a different material from the "cube part" of the roofing, for example on a stone wall, the part in red (In the first image), would stay as planks while all of the wall would stay as stone (In the second image), this in my opinion makes the build less appealing esthetically.


My suggestion would be that the part in red, would have it's texture changed based on the block below it instead of having a fixed one, if there is no block below, then the texture could default on the normal one that is on the game already. 


(Obs: I used the Sod Roofing as an example but what was spoken applies to all roofing on the game.)
