I found a translocator near my base -- it's kind of funny that I only remembered to check that cave out now. However, it transports to a cave that appears to be under the center of a big inland sea. Soo.... if I attempt to dig up to get to the surface, I'm going to be drowned in a waterfall.

Has anyone dealt with this and figured out a trick to get out? The cave isn't flooded -- I hope translocators don't transport players to environments likely to kill them outright. I can certainly cave around and see if I can get closer to shore.

Any advice?

Explore the cave first. If it's deep enough to be under a sea, it often is big enough to have a second translocator.

But digging up is pretty easy. Once you either have sand collapsing or water pouring in, close it off, and dig a little "s" trap off to the side. The only tricky part might be finding the spot and getting back in. FWIW, you can build a tunnel to the surface fairly quickly, though you do only get 16y per stack of packed earth.

You take 3-5 stacks of cobblestone + 1-2 stacks of ladder and build a pillar stretching from the bottom of the sea to the sea level. Then you stand in the middle and carve out the middle block for a tower/chute.

If you're poor you can use soil. But that's, you know, a tower of dirt, in the middle of a sea. Rather lame.

That shouldn't be a worry, I carry a bucket of water around mostly for transportation. As soon as I get my first bucket, I don't even carry ladders and I flood every mine shaft I dig. I absolutely love mining under the ocean, because it pretty much guarantees I am not going to be disturbed. You can hold your breath pretty long on default settings, and then it's easy to make a quick air pocket when you need to by digging 2 blocks to the side.

I worry more about having to dig through 100+ layers of useless rock to get to the surface, only to find it to be another uninteresting area. I haven't done a lot of caving or messing with translocaters because of bad experiences so far.
