Just updated my world to 1.20.3, and now the prospecting pick seems to be bugged.

Close-range mode seems to work just fine, but in long-range, I'll take the first two samples as normal, and when I try to take the third, the block breaks and nothing happens, as if I'd broken it with a normal pick. No chat log, no map waypoint, no nothing. If I try a new sample far enough away, it'll give me the "too far away, starting new sample" message.

I've got a pretty good collection of mods, but on a multiplayer server with the same mod list the pick works just fine, so I doubt they're causing the issue. Mostly making this thread to give people something to land on in Google if they're having the same issue; I couldn't find anyone else having this problem.

I seem to be having the same issue on 1.21.6.
Did you ever figure out what was causing it?

The first thing I would check is making sure you're on the Info tab of the chat logs. If General chat is very active, or has been active recently, the tab doesn't always switch. So it's possible that the propick could be working just fine, but seems like it's not since the prospect data doesn't appear automatically.

Otherwise, I would suspect mod interference. Are you using any mods that affect prospecting, or mods in general? If you are, I'd recommend creating a vanilla world and making sure that vanilla is working properly, then re-enable mods one by one, testing each one until the problem reoccurs.

Is it working just fine on other worlds? If so, the world files may be corrupted and something is interfering with the way the pick works
Most bugs can also go away after just reloading the game, at least from my experience, like this hen being stuck in space-time continuum
