Unable to make a pit kiln (yes I know how, and have in the past) after making a new world.

I have NO flammable stuff near the area. I have more than enough dry grass. I even tried going into creative and completely replacing every block all the way 3 blocks out from my pit kiln area with stone, still won't work. If I make it only 1x1 then it will let me make the pit kiln. Please help!

From my experience you can only make a one block Pit Kiln. I typically use a checker board pattern to allow for many tightly packed kilns.

Pit Kiln must have solid blocks on all sides except up.

In my first world I was able to make a cross shaped pit kiln and it worked just fine...

You can make "X"-shaped just fine. Cross  ( "+" shaped) should not work.

Replace noon, 3, 6 and 9 with non-flammable blocks and Bob's your uncle.
