Hey there,

Yesterday I finally got the materials needed to repair a translocator that was luckily not far from my house and whew.. my heart was racing when I stood in the green beams, what will I experience? Well, I was teleported into some deep cave and instantly my wheel of sanity starts spinning counterclockwise fast.. I had to go up a steep ledge and saw a door with monsters moving behind it.. Quickly I got the attention of other monsters and started running back to the portal as I was getting my ass beat... I luckily died on the portal as I was getting transported... I ran back naked as a jaybird to the translocator near my home and all my gear and inventory was still there...

What gear should I have on before I try this again? I just have leather armor at the moment.

Thanks

Sounds like your new translocator is deep underground 😬 It happens from time to time

What I do is block in my translocator room, and then use ladders to dig straight up. You might see some ruined ladders already in your translocator room, I like to use those and continue from there with fresh ones.

If you wish to explore the deep caves where you're at, I would recommend plate armor, a shield, and your falx blade. Me being me, I wait until full iron plate before I go into the deeper caves, but I suck at fighting :P

We do the exact same as @Never Jhonsen  - we are still on Leather armor or, if we actually decide to go a bit caving, max Gambeson, but we normally tend to find these things per accident... so we use a new TL and immediately block the chamber on the other side with dirt, leave an oil lamp there and dig our way up to the new lands. Ladders are cheap, reliable and a fast way to the surface.

This weekend I ended up getting the map location of the "Resonator Chamber"? and I took the long trek there.. the entrance ended up being way up on a hillside that I had to carefully navigate to and since I have created a nice scary path back to level ground..

I took the trip down the long ladder to the chamber and walked around a little... was easy to knock the drifters off the platform.. but I got seriously creeped out... came back up and started building a nice base at the top..

Man this game does have excellent environment details and sounds that really creep you out.

I do what @Never Jhonsen does: block the entrance to the translocator room, and tunnel my way to the surface with ladders. It's not only safer, but offers much more convenient access to the translocator, assuming you're going to be using it with any frequency.

As for caving in general...the equipment you'll need somewhat depends on your skill level. I generally wouldn't recommend venturing too far into caves until you have iron armor. Iron armor is sturdy enough to hold up against most of what's in the caves, and if you happen to find yourself facing off against the nightmares haunting the deepest layer it can buy you enough time to either deal with the threat or escape. Gambeson and bronze are also solid choices, though they won't hold up as well against deeper level threats.

Hey there, just an update I have Iron armor now, just chain but I have enough for plate. The interesting thing is I been mining under my house about 20 blocks down.. I was surprised to find a cave system and some black coal.. interestingly I dont have to go far to see a rusty opening of some old home someone had in the cave, but can you believe it, there are two bells there and so I cant get near to plunder the structure without setting off an alarm and mobs "mobbing" me.. I'll get scale or plate and go back..

Fun game!

Bells can be the worst 😨 Nothing more scary than idling around in a cave and hearing one go off through the walls 😬 I personally haven't come across TWO bells at once, and I hope I never do 😰 Best of luck to you with those
