After reading around on the forum and discord, seems like the glider is a novelty. While cool, you have to have a high altitude to get any distance out of it.

This is a multi part suggestion.

First: a Mechanical power air compressor requiring Steel and sturdy leather.

Second: a Steel Air Tank with a nozzle that can act as a thruster when held in the hand.

I believe that the values can be tweaked with these items to keep from fully breaking the game, i.e. may take a full day with 4 full windmills to fill the tank, tank only provides 1 minute of thrust (less if constantly held open)

Maybe a later upgrade would involve Jonas Parts to attach a kind of propeller to the tank to make the tank last longer but with less thrust.

Welcome to the forums! It's a neat idea, but one best suited for either a very late-game Jonas tech upgrade, or its own separate thing as some sort of airship. Flight is a very powerful ability, and can trivialize a lot of content(see Minecraft's elytra).

I always have my glider for adventuring. Makes it easier to travel down, no matter the height. Especially useful in jumping large gaps and running away from creatures.

And while I do not get many flights longer than one or two seconds, there's still a noticeable travel change with one. I get why some people find it novel, but I think, even in it's current state, it's a must-have. Give my my wings please 🐉

Thanks for the welcome! I know how much flight really can mess up balance. I've been on Minecraft since Beta 1.2, once you get the Elytra, it pretty much kills all other forms of transportation. That's why I figured a very limited boost system, 1 tank may get you to that trader that is 1,500 blocks away and back, but you're not going to be traveling to the Lazaret without an excess of tanks, which could be expensive, maybe 8 steel plates in a circle in the the 3x3 or a complex smithing recipe along the lines of the anvil.

I can appreciate that. To each their own, that's what makes these Block survival games so wonderful, there isn't just one way to play. With Anego doing what they are with the core design of the game being easily modable, you can tweak the gameplay to whatever you want.

Being heavily limited like that could work, though my main concern would be the contraption breaking story locations. I think to get around that, it'd have to be gated behind some of the story content as a reward, so that you only get it after you've completed the content it would break.

Fair enough, I've only done the second story point so far in my 280 hour single player play-through.

Spoiler

I've yet to make the hike to the third location, will probably do that in the spring. after looking at the spoilers on the wiki, I figure I'll need a partial base near the third for the 4th and 5th. I'm guessing you're referring to the 4th, and I can see how it might cause a problem.

Perhaps there could be a schematic for say the crankshaft for the compressor at that location to act as the gating mechanism.

I saw that they are wanting to find more uses for the mechanical power system, and just thought this could be an option.

As a side note that just popped into my head, perhaps require the power-train to be stopped during temporal storms, since we have spacetime doing it's weebly-wobbly thing that could just have it shatter some axles that are getting warped while in motion.

I am loving the game, and really excited to see where they take the story.
