Help with rock spawning

In my current world (20hrs in), I spawned into Peridotite rock. This rock is everywhere, over ground and underground. I have travelled thousands of blocks in all directions and still.... Peridotite or sand of the same type?

How dows rock spawning work?

I am trying to get to granite or any Sedimentary rock so I can find borax.

Granite will be below the peridotite layer. You can always get granite. If you want another rock type pick a direction and head 5k blocks. That is usually the worst case on size of a single stone area.
