So I've been living out of a shack since I started playing. I made some out buildings for the more space intensive functions (farming and smithing) but now I've decided the second winter is time to upgrade.

As you can see I've chosen to make my house out of some very labour intensive material 🥲 It took a long time hand-feeding querns but I've got enough plaster to complete the build with the tudor aesthetic that I want.

The structure is complete now so I finally get to play with the chisel! Orginially I was going to build another large room marked out by that dirt but that can be an extension at some later date.

I'm really happy with how the window detailing worked out and I'm excited to put lots of little touches in with the chisel. The chiselling mechanic in VS is one of the best I've ever seen ❤️

I'm currently working on the bedroom so I can move back in (I'm currently sleeping in my barnl lol). I think I'll do the library next. Thus far I've engaged very little with the lore of the game but I want to change that, I love the idea of making a library/museum to collect and study all the law artifacts I find on my adventures.

For anyone who read my whole nerdy little info dump, thank you, stay cool ❤️

Looks great! Good luck with the chiseling and detailing ;) Although when You finally decide to move in I would suggest moving the apiary further from the house 😛 The constant buzzing will make you go crazy :D

Update

I made some nice progress on the bedroom. I had some trouble with the room not counting as being encloded, all I can say to that is thank you devs for giving us debug tools (particularly /debug rooms hi)!

I'm really happy with the structure of the room and particularly the bed, but it doesn't have that cozy feel I'm looking for yet.

Any suggestions for furnishings?

A bed table perhaps? Maybe a chair by the window or you could chisel up a dresser or even just a chest at the end of the bed.

So I've been experimenting with window designs but the room debug tool has shown me that the windows are "exposing" the room.

I've noticed in some tiny test rooms I made that the tool can be quite inconsistent, making something that obviously is exposed as being a room and marking what it has previously shown to be a room as exposed.

Any advice for making rooms with thin windows?

At least the room I'm doing this in is not intended to be a bedroom so I don't have to worry too much about it being cold. It's winter at the moment so I'm very aware of when a room is or isn't insulated lol.

p.s does anyone have any tips about using the /debug rooms hi/unhi tool?

This is the window design I came up with without all the debug highlighting.
Maybe I can thicken the decorative quartz glass with regular glass, which is nye invisible when chiselled, and make it an insulating block? Results are inconclusive so far.

I like those ideas. I'll follow up after I've completed my windows :)

Hm an interesting design the House:

i have 3 recomendations at least for my beauty taste:
1. you could make the roof block further than the walls most roof in rl have this feature
2. the overhanging windows need some chiseled frames because well it looks than more natural but only for my taste.
3. Another colour look bricks maybe would split up the white texture of the bedroom maybe add a baseboard out of some type of material

im curious how the house looks if its finished 🙂

I was already going to have the roof come out from the walls a bit. I love the idea of a baseboard! I would not have thought of that but a small detail like that would change the feeling of the room a lot
