Hi team, all

As title said, I'm having stutters issues where the game every 5-10 sec stutter. It's kinda annoying and would like to ask anyone if they found some extra fix, or is it common, acknowledged?

Issue started when I updated the game from 1.20.4 to 1.20.12
First I thought, it could be mods, but nah even on vanilla it's the same. Maybe someone has the fix/solution?

TB done:
Tried the steps in here

Here

tried some workarounds written here

but even after all the steps, the issue is still there. The odd thing is, that my GF has the same issue and difference is, that she has different GPU and CPU.

My Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
RAM: Corsair 32GB 3200mhz
GPU: Asus ROG-STRIX-RTX 2080TI running on 32i 4k monitor
SSD
GF Specs:
CPU: Intel I7-9700
RAM: Corsair 24GB
GPU Asus rtx 2060 super running on 27i monitor
SSD

Thank you in advance!

It took me a few tries at different stuff to get a noticeable improvement. Setting the Optimize RAM off outside the game was the biggest for me, I see it didn't help you. I do still have the occasional big stutter (~ 1/2 second), but it is no where near as common.

I would say keep trying different settings and see if any make a difference. I have a really current PC built in Feb '25, so my example may not fit well. What resolution are you running VS at on your 4K monitor? Not sure what else to try off hand.

Good luck!

You may have exhausted the collective knowledge of how to mitigate/fix this issue. I've personally gone through my bios tweaking stuff and enabling stuff like resizable bar. Though my stuttering was never as bad, more so that I had much lower FPS than would be expected with my hardware.

Yes, I've tried and I'm running on 3840x2160. Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately nothing changed. :( Tried in 2560x1440 and 1920x1080 and same issue persist.

Good point, same here, but it did not fix the stutter issue, just got me more FPS :D

I've tried to reinstall the game, delete the %appdata% folder and still same. What is really really odd, that I've installed the 1.20.4 version back, and the stutters disappear. On older version is working totally fine and another point, that for my GF, she has the exactly same issue like me. Different device, different hw specs. Maybe the patch with the optimization went wrong?

In some point, I got to https://wiki.vintagestory.at/Framerate_and_Performance#Causes_outside_Vintage_Story where I found possible cause of Discord and can be a potential fix for others -> switching off Hardware Acceleration

This issue and fix solved GF issue, but mine still remains :( But whenever I'm checking the discord, seems like I'm not the only one having such issue.

and the very strange thing, when I go back to 1.20.4, the stutter issue is completly gone...

Have you tried playing with the Chunk Upload Limiter ? Try increasing it to 5 or higher to see what it does, the tooltip says each system has different happy medium.

I have a lesser machine than yours, despite having all the eye candy max'd it runs at a pretty smooth 75 FPS at 1920 and 608 render range, so your machine should do much better.

(My PC is a i74970k 32 ddr 3 ram rtx 3060 on a SSD Win 10)

The only other setting that seems odd is the optimise ram, which on mine is optimise somewhat.

Hope you can fix it.

If you haven't already RubyxD, go back to the Graphics tab and mouse-over all the settings and re-evaluate what you have set. Perhaps setting the Preset to a lower quality and then bit by bit inching settings up. I know it's a PITA, but troubleshooting always is on these things.

Otherwise, do like me and deal with it until the game and GPU drivers meet in a happy place! 😎

thanks for the tip. Tried your settings and unfortunately it is the same, even on mine second 27 monitor. I've also read some messages fixing the stuttering issues with unplugging the HDMI cable, so I tried it too and did the completly device reset but nah. :D I'ts something very deep

Well, this was the first thing I've tried. :D and missed 1 settings. -> medium with vsync off. With this, seems to be working fine, until there is temporal storm, everything goes terribly wrong and not getting even 20+ fps.

Tried also deleting the drivers with DDU and rollbacking. Nah. Did again, and switched mine GPU with 2060 Super. Same.

So yeah, I've already spent more hours TB then actually playing the game =D, checking discord for any lag spikes, stutter messages and potential fix... and last option as u said. Deal with it..  Already rollbacked the game to 1.20.4 and happy playing on this version. Finger crossed for next update that could potentially fix this issue.

Thank you everyone for spending the time reading and proposing potential fixes. Really appreciate it! ❤️
