SquiddyDude Posted July 9, 2025 Report Posted July 9, 2025 I think consuming alcohol should restore sanity (scaling the amount restored with intoxicity). It would have fun lore implications and may affect player societies in interesting ways, such as an extra long underground expedition but would need alcohol stockpiled/delivered, or returning after a particularly insane adventure and needing to go to the inn to "calm" the mind. It would also be nice to just add a minor mechanic to consuming alcohol along side the RP. What do you think? 1
LadyWYT Posted July 9, 2025 Report Posted July 9, 2025 Welcome to the forums! By sanity, are you talking about the teal gear in the middle of the hotbar? That meter tracks your temporal stability; sanity isn't a stat in the game(at the moment). Temporal stability hasn't really been explained in detail, but it's very different from sanity and carries more serious implications when you lose too much. The best way I can really describe it is that temporal stability essentially determines how much of a foothold you have in the present time in the real world...lose too much, and you start slipping through time into a different dimension entirely. That's not to say this is a bad idea, I would just implement it differently. Instead of restoring temporal stability(there is already a method to do this in the game, using a knife and a temporal gear), perhaps it gives the imbiber a small reduction on incoming damage. That allows players to use alcohol to be a bit tougher in a fight(which could be very useful if they don't have particularly good armor yet), with the risk of drinking too much and losing accuracy/coordination.

"Good luck hurting me bowtorn, I am behind 7 liters of cranberry wine!" I love it lol. Jokes aside, that is an interesting idea. And like the Dragon of the Forums said, with there already being a way to restore your stability, I think a different implementation would be better. If you wanted it still related to stability, maybe it makes it drain faster? Though I admit it is a bit of a stretch, and would be a very hard sell logic/lore wise. 1

Alcohol inhibits your logic processing abilities, so being able to do "stupider moves in a fight" whilst tanking damage would be great. "There's a temporal storm a'comin'. I'd recommend gettin' absolutely shitfaced on that mead there before it hits; it helps with their swipe attacks.", "Jhonny's too drunk to notice the Bowtorn spikes through his legs and shoulder as he's charging straight at that group.", "You got too drunk last night and fought 4 shivers at once, it's a wonder you survived!" Off topic, what's a group of Bowtorns called? Same with the other two mobs as well. 3

Facethief Posted July 10, 2025 Report Posted July 10, 2025 Or maybe a drove of drifters, but that doesn’t quite work. 1
Never Jhonsen Posted July 10, 2025 Report Posted July 10, 2025 Drifters do swarm, that one works. And Bowtorns do make a great squad I'm not sure on the shiver surge tho. It's not a bad suggestion, but it doesn't fully fit a group of Shivers to me.

"Drift" is a bit close to "rift" and may cause some verbal miscommunication. "Hey watch out for that drift over there." "The rift's on a hilltop, we'll be fine."

You could also use legion but that also could be used for all of them and expresses that there are a lot of them. 1
WalrusJones Posted July 11, 2025 Report Posted July 11, 2025 While the idea mostly doesn't hold water at examination I do have a funny one. You know the temporal storm nausea affect? What if that was canceled by booze, where as intoxication on a normal day makes long range shooting hard, it puts you in tune with the world distorted. Also makes me think of a CRPG I played recently where you used a poison cocktail to walk outside of reality in rift like anomalies sometimes since you needed the poison to function deep in the rifts.... 1
dabearsberries Posted July 18, 2025 Report Posted July 18, 2025 This is so funny. I love the idea haha, this should totally be a thing 1
Guimoute Posted July 18, 2025 Report Posted July 18, 2025 That would be lovely. Dwarves need beer for long mining expeditions after all.
