dabearsberries Posted July 18, 2025 Report Posted July 18, 2025 Hi there! I’m here to propose an idea: snakes! We already have the audio of insects trilling and I first thought that sound was a snake. like the wolf, the snake could be a hostile mob that does a good amount of damage to newer players so they must be wary of dense forest landscapes. We have scrambled eggs from chicken but what if there were also snake eggs! Just like the chicken egg, the player would be able to collect snake eggs from the ground and then scramble in the meal making mechanic. I think this addition would be a great way to increase mob variety while not adding too much challenge, and another source of eggs! Thank you for reading and have a great day! 2
mattk2003 Posted July 18, 2025 Report Posted July 18, 2025 I love this idea! I think snakes would be cool in certain biomes and would make for a good variety hostile creatures (or neutral). When I first started playing I swore I heard snakes in the ambience and thought they were already in the game. Would also be cool to have a small hostile creature. Fits with the theme of adding some creepy monsers/animals. Could possibly be low health and high damage—hiding in bushes or reeds. 10/10 should be added 1 1
Facethief Posted July 18, 2025 Report Posted July 18, 2025 With the foliage in this game, they’d have to be very visible or audible to not be the least fun threat in the game. And bonus annoying points if they have an aggro radius of more than 3 blocks. 1
Tom Cantine Posted July 19, 2025 Report Posted July 19, 2025 I think snakes get a bad rap as it is. Most snakes aren't dangerous to humans at all. If snakes are added, I would like it to be more representative of actual snake diversity. We have many species of goats and deer and butterflies and mushrooms, after all. So I think it'd be nice to have quite a few different kinds of snakes, only some of which are dangerous. And having one near your crops could even be beneficial, as it keeps the rabbits away. 2 1

I agree with you that not all of them should do damage like there should be some skittish harmless black snakes. Some poisonous snakes. Some friendly. Love the farm protection idea! #wewantsnakes
Echo Weaver Posted July 19, 2025 Report Posted July 19, 2025 Poisonous snakes seem like they should add a poison debuff. I don't think we have anything like that in the game currently, but it's just the reverse of a heal over time. I lived 10 years in rattlesnake country. Some of the insect sounds we have currently sound enough like rattlesnakes that I keep pausing to look around when I'm in areas of intense insect sounds. Rattlesnakes seem like they'd be a perfect poisonous snake to add. I'm also a snake lover, and if we're going to add some poisonous snakes, we should add a lot of neutral/friendly ones too. I love the idea of snakes driving away/eating rabbits. 1

I’m a relatively new player but I still sometimes expect a rattle snake to pop out at me because of the ambience sounds. I think a poison debuff would be a nice addition to the game, adding a little extra challenge but not too much. There could be different variations of snakes throughout biomes and like bees, the player could hear them coming before they see them. Snake on, DaBearsBerries #WeWantSnakes 1

majestik Posted July 20, 2025 Report Posted July 20, 2025 Sneeeeeeeeeeeeeeek I'd love to see more critters, and if there is balance between poisonous/neutral snakes, that could be cool 1

Professor Dragon Posted July 23, 2025 Report Posted July 23, 2025 Hey OP, fixed your thread title for ya! While I do appreciate (Seriously) the thought gone into this post, and can even appreciate an ophiophilist in action, my thoughts on this being in base game are "Nooooooo!" My view is that we already have ENOUGH things that want to do us harm (beasts, monsters, weather . . . even the dirt blocks), without giving Tyron any more ideas on causing us trouble. Why not kittens? WHY IS IT NEVER KITTENS? ? ? Thanks. Someone had to say it. Professor Dragon. 2 3
majestik Posted July 23, 2025 Report Posted July 23, 2025 I could see an option to toggle it off, for people that has ophiophobia and maybe it could be the same option to have an alternative look for those terrifying locusts that terrify me even if i'm not arachnophobe. But yeah ! Wildcats ! I'm all for more critters. Even if the wildcats could also bit us for trying to steal their kittens to add to our home 1 1
Echo Weaver Posted July 23, 2025 Report Posted July 23, 2025 Eldritch monsters who want to kill you? No problem. Snakes? AAAAAAAH! That said, until you get very deep, wolves and bears are in fact more dangerous than Drifters.... 1 1 1
