Hi, i started couple days ago. I like pottery system, making my own pots and stuff.

But i yearn for color, for patterns. Traders have them, but i coudnt find a way to make them. Do i need oven to make patterns and colors?

I tried searching in game, but there is no mention of it, and google shows me only mods.

Thank you for help.

In the vanilla game, there is no way to make decorated pottery outside of making your own custom mod.
Traders and ruins will allow you to get certain special decorated storage vessels, but you cannot make your own.

However, in the upcoming 1.21 update, you can now colour all of your ceramic items. No custom patterns yet though.

Where can i read patch notes for 1.21?

Patch notes for all versions can be found at the top of the site, under devlog > news (link for you as well :) )

By custom do you mean just like chiseling, or anything that is not plain color?

In 1.21, each clay item can be fired in a different color, based on if's source material, as well as a Beehive Kiln configuration.

I checked the notes, very cool additions.

Beehive kiln reminded me of my sod roofing question regarding pottery firing.

Will sod roofing burn 1 block above the pit kiln? I tried to make pit kilns with roof so they are more immersive than dirt, but i woudnt want to burn whole area.

Any burnable block will burn one block above a pit kiln. One block as in one air block between the top of the kiln and the bottom of the burnable block.

Two blocks are perfectly fine above a pit kiln :) Also, the 4 blocks on the side of the pit kiln can be chiseled. I have some above-ground (knee-level) pit kilns with the 4 blocks chiseled to be two (chisel) voxels thick, as well as their height reduced by two to make looking into them easier.
