And it just so happens that I still have two game keys to give out from the family pack I bought. In the case that the game doesn't perform well, or he simply doesn't enjoy the game, would I be able to receive the key back somehow, to give out to someone else?

I'm not sure of the answer to this question...you might try opening a support ticket about it, as the support team would likely have a better answer. However, if your friend lives nearby, you could use your account to install the game on his laptop and see if the laptop can handle it. If it can, then you can gift him the key, but if not then you don't have to worry about trying to get a refund on the key, since there was no need to use it in the first place. 1

Yeah unfortunately he lives round the other half of the globe from where I am, so that probably won't be possible haha. In any case, thanks for the help, I'll try and ask the support team

Hopefully support will have a better answer for you--it takes a couple of days on average for them to answer tickets, but the response time varies according to their present workload.
