Echo Weaver Posted September 22, 2025 Report Posted September 22, 2025 I was looking for blocks I could use for build in my current stone/pottery age game, and I saw in the wiki that there was a "hardened clay" block that could be made in a firepit. However, I've tried putting red and blue clay in the firepit as described here https://wiki.vintagestory.at/Ceramic_Blocks#Hardened_Clay with peat, which is overkill if the goal temp is 300C, and nothing is happening. What am I missing?

I'm searching through the DB, and I see this: https://mods.vintagestory.at/dyedhardenedclay with a lot of requests for bringing back the original recipe. I'll poke at 1.19 and see what it did.

Unfortunately I'm not aware of any, and I can't really find anything obvious with a quick search of the database. Most mods that deal with clay seem to be focused on more pottery options, brick options, or otherwise altering pottery making/clay deposit generation in general.

Yeah, and what I'm looking for is interesting stuff before entering the copper age. It doesn't look that hard to bring back. I'll ponder whether it's worth doing. Independent of my weird gaming goals, it seems like a reasonable building block, and having a way to make building blocks before mortar seems useful. Maybe they concluded that it was preempted by wattle and daub? 1

Possibly, but given the recent addition of ceramic tiles and colored pottery, I'm thinking it was removed in favor of potentially adding more interesting ceramic building materials later. 1

OK, maybe that's it, though it doesn't seem like you'd have to remove what's there. I really liked that it was a clay building material that could be made with just a firepit. The current ceramic bricks require mortar, so they can't be made in the stone age. They also look so modern to me that I find them aesthetically jarring until late game. The hardened clay blocks looked like they might be a good flooring for the roundhouse I'm designing for my extended stone-age game.
VaelophisNyx Posted January 9 Report Posted January 9 oh that got removed? Lame. It was a cool block to have...
