Sailboat Doesn't Launch for Me

Hi Everyone,

In 1.21 I've not been able to successfully launch the boat. It must be something I'm doing wrong, but I can't figure it out. I always have to dig the boat out from underneath to drop the rollers so the boat floats. Here's what happened in 1.21.5:

I just tried it quickly in creative in the current version and got the same result. I don't think you're doing anything wrong, could be a recently introduced bug.

  • Thanks 1

Thanks for that.

I've also just tried it in Creative again v1.21.5 and the same issue for me.

  • Used Oak, not Redwood
  • Used Creative only
  • Built facing East as per video
  • Tried building both on a rammed earth block platform one deep with water underneath, and on a platform which was solid all the way under. No difference.
  • The issue is that although the boat "launches", it immediately settles back onto the platform (sinks into it). The progress bar that then comes up is to build a SECOND sailboat, which will do the same thing. Leading to a nested doll set of boats on the building platform.

This is odd, because I'm sitting in a boat that I thought that I'd built on the current version, but may have been the last one...

I don't have any mods that I think should be having an impact.

I checked the logs folder, and don't see anything that looks relevant.

RECOMMENDATION
Log an issue through VS Issue Tracker, put the link here, and I'll add my comments to it.

Thanks, Professor Dragon.

I tried logging the issue but I'm unfamiliar with GitHub, you're obligated to attach a log file which I'm not quite sure to find, as you said I don't think there's any relevant information in there. To me it seems like a simple issue with the spawn location of the sailboat following the launch animation, right now it seems to spawn the sailboat at the origin point/center of the construction area rather than construction area + a few blocks forward as it should, I hope that makes sense, I do a little gamedev for fun in my spare time and it's what my spidey senses are telling me.

Definitely seems to be a bug. I've watched three different let's plays this week, both of which made their first boat, and it did the same thing for all three. They had to dig the ground out from under the boat in order to launch it. One of the players didn't know and he saw the prompts to add stuff, and didn't realize until he dug a trench that it was making him build a second boat within the first boat, since the first boat was still in the way of the logs. I'm not as familiar with GitHub, but I heard that that's the best place to report bugs for Vintage Story.

I have created a VS Issue Tracker report here:
Sailboat does not launch correctly - resettles on land

I have added comments and images from this thread.

However, please add any relevant information as a Comment to that thread.

(I recommend creating a GitHub account to use for Vintage Story at some point - it's useful 🙂)

Devs have confirmed this is fixed when a new version comes out.

Fixed in 1.21.6"

Hello @Shoom, @Warpkitty, could either of you re-test on the current version (After 1.21.6)? It is not a stable release yet, and I won't be on V.S. until that is released most likely. Thanks.

I tried it in the current latest unstable version (1.22.0-rc4), I lost count of the attempts but here are some of the things I tried.

Creative mode, man-made body of water 2 blocks deep, oak sail boat, launched correctly.

Creative mode, man-made body of water 1 block deep, oak sail boat, launched correctly.

Creative mode, man-made 3x3 pit of water, oak sail boat, launched correctly.

Creative mode, naturally generated body of water, old game world (generated in 1.20), oak sail boat, launched correctly.

Same as above but launched the sail boat in survival mode rather than creative. (Switched game modes using /gm2 & /gm 1)

Creative mode, Redwood sail boat, into flowing water blocks, as in I only partially filled the pit I launched the boat into, sailboat still launched correctly.

Only thing of note is that there's a slight visual hitch whenever the boat launches, it seems to "teleport" back to the center point of the rollers for a split second but aside from this everything seems to work fine (seems to be purely visual)

Perhaps the bug is still possible under certain circumstances? However I couldn't replicate the bug from 1.21.5, and I tried everything I could think of. 🙂

EDIT: I suppose the only thing I didn't try was to make a sailboat completely from scratch in survival mode.

I'll give it a test sometime, but I won't be able to do it soon, sorry. If anyone else can test on current version, it would be appreciated.

Two things:

  • Was this done with or without mods? Without mods is better as a test.
  • Consider putting this feedback into the GitHub report above.
