Lying down on a bed (which is only possible in servers) and sitting down burn the same number of calories as standing still. This makes them quite useless. Players should be encouraged to sit or lie down when they go AFK. It's an intuitive mechanic, a nice roleplay addition and it's easy to implement. When playing on a server, many people (including me) simply disconnect at night to avoid losing hunger. There's nothing to do: it's pitch black, full of drifters and -10°C. At least let us lie down in our hay bed while doing our Duolingo lesson in real life 🤣

  • Standing still: 100% hunger rate
  • Sitting down: 75% hunger rate
  • Laying down: 60% hunger rate

I have tried to adjust the ratings based on the percentage of calories burned in real life.

I've actually heard that standing still burns less than sitting down, due to the whole AFK business. I do agree though, sitting down makes more sense to reduce energy consumption, and there could likely just be a server setting to mark players as AFK if they haven't made any actions within a certain time and make them sit down automatically. World of Warcraft had this feature--players would be marked AFK after a certain period and inactivity and their character would take a seat until they returned to the keyboard.

also in mining getting in to a one block high space would be better for mining narrow seams as seen here. laying down/sitting/ crawling could be handy for getting in to them tight spaces

That would be great.

I can't even even count how many times I have wanted this. Specially because ore veins are 1 block tall.

Would be interesting if sitting down made you less of a target for drifters. Or made non-predator animals to come closer since you aren't as intimidating.
