fluffz Posted November 16, 2025 Report Posted November 16, 2025 (edited) My two original sows functions as intended and get the text line "portions eaten" after pregnancy cool down. But my new generation of sows grew up and despite being ready to breed, the "portions eaten" line of text does not show up; as seen in the first screenshot. They do however eat dry fruit mash from the large trough. I am on version 1.21.5 and I am using a rather limited amount of mods, as can be seen the second screenshot. All mods are up to date to my knowledge. The only mod that is "outdated" is Tools Require Rope, but I struggle to see how that would cause any issues with the gen 1 sows. Am I missing something obvious and this is in fact an intended function? Or is something indeed wrong here? (I did a number of searches before posting, and I could not find an answer to this myself) Thanks in advance! Edited November 16, 2025 by fluffz
Evilel Posted November 17, 2025 Report Posted November 17, 2025 That's stating they are able to mate but haven't eaten any portion's yet. every time they breed they have to eat 10 portions to breed again. normally the spot ready to mate will say (X) days before able to mate if they just breed or are still to young to breed. until they are ready to mate anything they eat from the large trough's doesn't count to their ready to mate portions
fluffz Posted November 17, 2025 Author Report Posted November 17, 2025 (edited) Thank you for your reply. The thing is that the original 2 sows I had from the beginning differ from the gen 1 sows. The tooltip for my first two sows says "0 out of 10" portions eaten, but the gen 1 sows does not even have this line of text. Both groups of sows says ready to mate. If you look at the screenshot you can see the tooltip for a gen 1 sow with the missing text line. I hope this made it clearer. Edited November 17, 2025 by fluffz Spelling
Evilel Posted November 17, 2025 Report Posted November 17, 2025 correct they won't have any of the eaten portions until they eat their first portion after being able to mate. what ever they eat prior to being able to mate doesn't account to their 10 portions for mating all it does is make them have higher creature weight (more meat drop when killed)
fluffz Posted November 17, 2025 Author Report Posted November 17, 2025 I understand that. But the issue here is that the old sow shows "0 out of 10 portions eaten" while the new sow does not have this line of text. So neither of them has eaten, but the new sow is missing the "0 out of 10" in the tooltip.
Evilel Posted November 17, 2025 Report Posted November 17, 2025 once the new ones eat it should show up. are you saying they have eaten and it still hasn't shown up?
fluffz Posted November 17, 2025 Author Report Posted November 17, 2025 "0 out of 10" should imply that the old sow has not eaten, the other old sow shows "1 out of 10" and she has been eating, but my four new gen 1 sows does not show neither "0 out of 10" nor "1 out of 10" since the entire text line is missing.
Evilel Posted November 17, 2025 Report Posted November 17, 2025 new ones text line won't show up until they eat.. it will not show 0 of 10 until after they have done a full breeding cycle like your original gen 0's. your gen 1's should show 1 of 10 as soon as they eat something if they are able to mate like the picture above shows 1
fluffz Posted November 17, 2025 Author Report Posted November 17, 2025 Alright, thanks a lot for the clarification. Then I will try to feed them once I get back to my game. The reason I was hesitant to just try and feed them yesterday were that I have very limited amount of food to give them, and I did not want to risk loosing precious animal feed. I have changed my crops json files to only drop 0.7 food once fully grown to make the game harder, and I am playing with 0% land cover which makes the island few and far between. I will report back later today

I will report back later today I would say that if you still have no success after further trials, try disabling your mods and testing on a vanilla world to see if you still have the same issues. If you do, then you've likely found a bug with the base game, and should go report it on the Github bug tracker. If not though, then it's probably a mod interfering with the gameplay somehow. In that case, you'll want to double-check your mods carefully, making sure they're up-to-date(or otherwise still working properly on the recent game version), as well as double-checking mod descriptions to make sure there's not one altering animal behavior(that you might not have noticed when installing it--hey it happens). Worst case scenario is that you can reinstall mods one by one, testing as you go, to see exactly when the issue crops back up. It's a tedious process, to be sure, but the most effective way for figuring out what's causing the problem, when there's no obvious suspect otherwise.

I have tried in game now and low and behold the text line shows up as soon as they ate their first meal. Thanks again for taking your time to help me! 1

Luckily this time it was simply a matter of me not knowing how the sows function in game, not a bug nor a mod conflict. Thanks anyway for reaching out with good advice! 1
