SPOILER WARNING

Spoilers ahead regarding the loot drops from the final Story 1 location.

Anyone replying to this thread - please use a spoiler tag if it gives out spoiler type information. But you don't need it for general responses.

REQUEST
I am missing a specific loot drop from the final location, and I am after advice on whether this is likely to be glitched, or I just missed the location, and/or if the loot can be generated by a command. Thanks.

Spoiler

BACKGROUND

At the end of Story 1, you reach the Resonance Archives and can search it for Aged lore books.

There are four stories unique to the Resonance Archives.

  • Admirer of the Miller
  • The Patronage of Tibalt Amaro
  • The Spy and the Sparrow
  • The Weight of Stone

I have found all but one book for "The Spy and the Sparrow."
Clearing out the Resonance Archives was easy by comparison to the effort it has taken me to get the full book set.

Here is the complete list of books retrieved from the Resonance Archives. Some were found outside of the Library, but I did not track specifically which ones.
I do not know if the colours and conditions are consistent across runs.
I did take a full Backup Save before attempting the boss fight and library run.

NOTES
Some of the books with story are a "Rotten lore book" while most are an "Aged lore book".
One Aged lore book cannot be opened.

REQUEST AND QUESTIONS

  • Have I just missed a book? I've clicked just about everything I can find, several times over.
  • Is it possible to generate the last part of "The Spy and the Sparrow" to my Journal? Then I could move on. 🙂
  • I have the option of restoring to my Save and retrying looting the whole place, but would prefer not to.
  • Does it seem right that some books cannot be opened, and that some rotten books contain story?

BOOKS

The Spy and the Sparrow
--------------------------
Part 1 Aged lore book (Dark gray)
My Honorable Lord. Successfully recruited. Had to prove intentions, apologies to Baron Tassi for disturbing his sleep and the stolen chamberpot - crude sense of humour.

Part 2 Aged lore book (Dark olive)
My Honorable Lord. Confirmed suspicions. Heard boasts of loot from the raid on your lordship’s holdings and Viscount Cardoso’s ale stores.

Part 3 Aged lore book (Gray)
Have drawn suspicion from Florin, Harrach subject, smithy.

Part 4 Aged lore book (Purple orange)
My Honorable Lord. I beg of you to accept my apologies for the tone of my previous missive. Being under scrutiny,

Part 5 Aged lore book (Orange brown)
My Honorable Lord. My sincere thanks for your generous and wise decision to abstain from violence against the bandits.

Part 6 Aged lore book (Gray)
My Lord. Apologies for such a long pause in my missives, but I have hardly had the opportunity to write.

Part 7 Rotten lore book (Brown)
My Lord. I hope this message reaches you swiftly. The next planned attack targets your Lordship’s estate with the goal of procuring valuables from their storage at the Stout Holds.

Part 8 Aged lore book (Cherry red)
I write to you distraught and disconcerted. Antek is dead, the young lad stabbed through the throat, giving his last breath in the interest of the cause.

Part 9 Rotten lore book (Purple)
Sparrow knows, has seen through my ploy, I am certain.

Part 10 UNDISCOVERED OR MISSING
To whoever reads this.

Aged lore book with "Nothing new in these pages"
Aged lore book (Orange brown) x2

Aged lore book that cannot be opened "Something passed down for others to read"
Aged lore book (Dark green)

Regular books - "Writable with Ink&Quill"
Dark green book
Purple-orange book
Orange book

Unreadable Rotten Lore Books "This book is too rotten to write in"
Purple rotten book x2
Gray rotten book x4
Brown rotten book
Dark gray rotten book
Rust rotten book

Thanks, Professor Dragon.

Found it! I now have a complete set.

For the record, it took a looooong time to find. Much longer than clearing the archive.

I feel no guilt at all about going into Creative Mode and gifting myself more black coal to keep the place lit, as it took forever to find this last one.

The one that caught me up was located at:

Spoiler

Second level up, in the display room at the right, first room on the right, at the back on the right.

It is a "Rotten lore book (Green)".

So, there is a complete set in the library as of v1.21.5, but you need to click on every single shelf to find it. (Multiple times in my case, because I went top to bottom I thought many, many times.)

Thanks, Professor Dragon.

Command to give Library Lore Books

Adding in this command from @MKMoose on a different thread.
A big "thank you" for this

On 6/4/2026 at 2:42 AM, MKMoose said:

Try this command:

/giveitem lore-book-aged-orangebrown 1 s[] { category: "archives" }

The book will automatically give you the next page you're missing from any series in the "archives" category, so you don't need to (and can't though it's possible) specify an exact piece of lore.

Change the colour ("orangebrown") of the book to whichever you like. See above thread if you wish a reference of colours for the Library Lore Books (not that it matters).
eg: /giveitem lore-book-aged-gray 1 s[] { category: "archives" }

You could also change from "lore" to one of the other major book categories.

It saved me after I accidentally locked myself out of collecting books, after using Creative/Spectator mode to get some better screenshots of the Library. <ahem>

TIP for the Hidden Books

You do not need to "click" each shelf, but instead read the tool tip
Note that there is NO green glowing spine for these hidden books. Instead, the tool tip when mousing over the shelf will display "Take lore book".

List of "Green Glowing" Spine, Resonance Archive Library Books

You should be able to find these without too much trouble

  • The Weight of Stone - 11 pages
  • Admirer of the Miller - 21 pages
  • The Patronage of Tibalt Amaro - 7 pages
  • The Spy and the Sparrow - 15 pages

List of ALL Lore Resonance Archive Books

After gathering the hidden books, you should have:

  • The Weight of Stone - 9 parts, 17 pages
  • Admirer of the Miller - 10 parts, 21 pages
  • The Patronage of Tibalt Amaro - 5 parts, 10 pages
  • The Spy and the Sparrow - 10 parts, 15 pages

As well as some Rotten Lore Books, writable books, lovely treasures and a fair smattering of miscellaneous.

There is a full list of the book texts here: https://wiki.vintagestory.at/Lore_book

But what do I DO with these Lore Books?

First, rejoice. Books are great! These ones contain some nice background stories about the world, and will give you something to read on those long, dark winter days.

Options beyond that:

  • Cart the books home, and display them.
Any players joining your world will be able to pick them up and read the stories.
  • Leave them at the Resonance Archive.
You can always come back for them later.
The moment you READ them, they are added to your Journal (J), so strictly speaking you don't need the physical books.
  • Transcribe them.
Write yourself an omnibus of collected works

I hope that helps.
