I don't have iron yet, but found an iron door. Is there some sort of advanced kiln or charcoal making apparatus I can make with it?

I just made my bismuth anvil and am now in the bronze age. However I have not yet located an iron vein so I am not quite ready to make iron. What I do need next though is a boatload of charcoal and I have nowhere good to make it. I scavenged an iron door from a dungeon that looks cool. Am I able to somehow make a large charcoal-making structure with the iron door incorporated that is reusable for charcoal?

Yes and no. For a fancy, more permanent charcoal pit, you will need an iron door, but you will also need an iron trap door for the top if you don't want to manually move the blocks that seal the pit.

Hmmm...ok, so lets say I power through and get some iron and want to make it early on for more charcoal. What do I need to google to look for designs that incorporate this? And what should I know about using it?

You don't need to google anything--simply look up the charcoal pit mechanic in the handbook. The use of iron doors in charcoal pits is simply to turn them into more permanent structures, so you can easily fill/empty the pit and light it when full, without needing to place/remove dirt blocks all the time. Simply punch a hole in the side of the pit for the entry door(you might want to make sure it's flush to the interior, but I'm not sure that's a hard requirement), and punch a hole in the top and cover that with the iron trapdoor so that you can close it after lighting a fire on top of the woodpile.
