RasmusTheGreat Posted December 10, 2025 Report Posted December 10, 2025 i really do not like vanilla terrain generation, it's noisy chaotic and often.. quite bland? sure it has some very scenic spots but theyre few and far between so, are there any settings that anybody has tried out that they found are way better than just the normal preset? or are there maybe any mods to make better terrain generation?
Professor Dragon Posted December 10, 2025 Report Posted December 10, 2025 In the Vanilla game, check out the examples of different world generation types here: https://wiki.vintagestory.at/World_Configuration#World_generation By the same token, point your browser search and this site and look for other threads. For example, someone was asking how to get more oceans: If you want rivers, try out one of the Rivers mods. (I'm not sure which work). https://mods.vintagestory.at/rivers https://mods.vintagestory.at/rivergen The big mod in terrain generation (which again not used, but it has a good reputation) is Tera Prety: https://mods.vintagestory.at/terraprety Professor Dragon. 2

I like having oceans and large islands or ideally continents, the settings I used are in the linked post. There's a setting I didn't know about and didn't touch in my experiments so I need to make some new worlds and try to mess with that setting too but I like the worlds I've been able to make with the settings in my post. The oceans are nice because you can use the sailboat to transport items acrossed the world but I will say that long sailing voyages can get boring and take a long time. I wish there was a boat in the game I would walk around on while it's moving so I could do stuff and not just have to sit there while it's sailing :3 1
Broccoli Clock Posted December 12, 2025 Report Posted December 12, 2025 I use Tera Pretty. It seems to generate something a bit more realistic. In fact, I used it for a water world which (with a bit of tweaking) created a map looking pretty much like this, which may appeal to you @jaelyn666 1

This world is long gone, and to be honest I doubt I'll start another water world. Fun and a little bit grindy at the start it becomes a real slog later game.
