compass Posted December 17, 2025 Report Posted December 17, 2025 Over the past month I've been having issues where the Vintage Story client stops responding. This has happened across two completely different local saves and also when playing on someone else's server. The crash is very hard to reproduce and seems to come completely randomly; maybe a dozen or so times. This makes it hard to manually go through my settings and configure them on-by-one to see which one might be the culprit, as I can't reproduce the crash at will. No crash log is generated either. It may be a red herring, but the crashing seems to happen once I get to the early bronze age and am around my house. I have tried: Soft reinstall of the game Completely new world Complete deletion and reinstall, including all data and mods Reinstall of required .NET framework I ran a copy with all my mods disabled and only encountered one instance of the crash; this could have been a fluke however or caused by something else, as the crashing is so hard to reproduce reliably I cannot be sure. Does this sound familiar? Could anyone lend some advice on how to proceed or what the culprit might be? I've included my computer specs, log files from my most recent crash, and mod list below. Were these crashes happening prior to 1.21.6, or did they only start occurring after updating to 1.21.6? If they only started occurring after, it's very likely that a mod is having an issue with the update somehow, if not a potential issue lurking within the update itself. If the crash keeps happening about the time you reach bronze then it could be an issue with something in that particular level of tech. Assuming you haven't tried this already--you might try completely reinstalling the game(backup your worlds in a separate folder before doing this!) and test on vanilla, before adding your mods back. Mods that are disabled shouldn't be affecting the game while disabled, but goofy things can happen. 1

Fair enough. The only other thing I can think of to check, is have the crashes been happening ever since you first started playing Vintage Story, or are they something that's only occurred relatively recently? In the event of the latter, are there any hardware or software upgrades that you have done recently that roughly coincide with the time the crashes started to occur?
pigfood Posted December 20, 2025 Report Posted December 20, 2025 'Application Hang' is not a crash. That Event Viewer entry means Vintage Story has stopped processing incoming events (e.g. from mouse / keyboard). I've also just experienced Vintage Story becoming unresponsive with 1.21.6 on Linux. There likely is some cross-platform issue.
