Apostolos Posted December 25, 2025 Report Posted December 25, 2025 I was wondering how I could do something that is bothering me. Currently when changing my keybinds, the keybind to open your inventory is also the same keybind to open your crafting inventory. That means, I have to open my inventory, then close my inventory using the same button while then HOLDING the button in order to then click my hot bar flint to place it on the ground for knapping. Is there any way to bind a key to ONLY place the flint on the ground for knapping? It is bugging me to no end that I have to open and close my inventory before I can do that.

I'm rather confused at what you're describing here. The only time I can recall having opened my inventory for knapping, is just to retrieve the flint/whatever rock was to be knapped. Once the flint is on my hotbar I just shift-rightclick on the ground to bring up the knapping interface, select the pattern I want to make, and then chip away the unneeded pieces. If you're asking if there's a way to split the crafting grid from the character inventory, no, there is not, at least to my knowledge. It's the kind of feature you'd likely have to write a mod for, since the crafting grid is basically just part of the character inventory(although you cannot store anything in the grid).
Apostolos Posted December 26, 2025 Author Report Posted December 26, 2025 No, the actual KEYBIND is what is messing me up. I changed it and it helps. I use my thumb buttons for my inventory and for sneaking. When I switched it to the sneak it helps so not sure what is going on or if there is some kind of undocumented shared keybind for it. Under Controls, the first option under "Actions" is "Open Backpack & Crafting inventory" When I bind that to my thumb button #4 I have to open my inventory, then close the inventory WHILE HOLDING THE THUMB BUTTON to allow me to place the flint on the ground to begin knapping. Is there a separate button somewhere in the keybinds section in order to "place the selected hotbar item (in my case flint) onto the ground to bring up the selection to make a knife, shovel, axe etc.,) If so, what is that keybind called? I am struggling a bit.
LadyWYT Posted December 26, 2025 Report Posted December 26, 2025 Ah, gotcha. I think I understand what's going on now. 21 minutes ago, Apostolos said: Is there a separate button somewhere in the keybinds section in order to "place the selected hotbar item (in my case flint) onto the ground to bring up the selection to make a knife, shovel, axe etc.,) To my knowledge, no, there is not. Sneaking is required in order to place items on the ground; I would assume it's coded that way to allow the player to use items easily without placing them on the ground by accident. 23 minutes ago, Apostolos said: I use my thumb buttons for my inventory and for sneaking. I'm assuming that each action is bound to a different button, in which case my first thought is to make sure the buttons in question aren't so close together that one could be triggered by accident(especially in the case of an older mouse that has seen many hours of service and might be wearing out). It could be some unintended code behavior so you might consider submitting a bug report, however, that seems unlikely. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any mods that provide this kind of function either, so the only solution I really see here is to switch the keybinds to a combination that doesn't cause this issue.
Apostolos Posted December 26, 2025 Author Report Posted December 26, 2025 I figured out what it was. Toggle setting at the top = Mouse click modifiers locked to sneak/sprint keys That was royally messing me up. Turning that off allowed me to just shift right click my flint to enable knapping mode lol 1
