EternalLight Posted January 4 Report Posted January 4 Hi, having made a start on a local game on my Steam Deck I am finding it's struggling. I do have a local PC that could quite easily run a server just for me, but is there a way of transferring my local game on to the server? I don't suppose it's as simple as copying the save game files on to the server somewhere?

I set up all of my servers on my PC then transfer the saved game file to the server. You need to copy the serverconfig.json as well and put it in the correct folder on the server. Also note that you need to whitelist yourself on the server. They set up the server to default to whitelist only and even if you set it off in the serverconfig it still requires you to be whitelisted. Depending on how you are running the VS server that can be annoying or very easy to do. Edited January 4 by Zane Mordien
EternalLight Posted January 5 Author Report Posted January 5 Brilliant, thanks for the quick and detailed answer. Thanks for the whitelisting tip as well, I had seen it was whitelist only by default but was just going to turn it off as it's local network only.
tinyoverflow Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 Please note that you might need to adjust the path in your serverconfig.json file, as (at least in my case) it referenced the absolute full path to the save file on my system (Linux Flatpak).
