_Vlad_ Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 I’ve been playing on my singleplayer world for quite a long time, and it now weighs almost 8.5 GB. Recently, I’ve started experiencing lag even in singleplayer: my character constantly feels like it’s “floating” instead of walking, chests open with a delay, and similar issues occur. I tried hosting the world on a powerful server, but it didn’t help. Has anyone encountered this before and can recommend ways to fix the problem? I’m playing with mods.*
Foe Hammer Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 (edited) While I am not sure if there is a fix, first thing that comes to mind with mods is to clear out any duplicates in your mod folder (older versions of mods) and maybe clean out the cashe folder to remove bloat. See if lowering your settings helps, if so it may be hardware limitations and or needs some setting changes. If so there are a few tips people have a believe, like setting your resolution to 75% which should give you a boost without making your game look like Doom. You can also give that mod being worked on that tries to improve game performance client side, Optitime IIRC, though no guarantees since even the author said it is still in development. In addition, if it is being hosted, it may be an issue with the server, but that is highly unlikely in my mind since it is a single player game, granted mods can eat up ram so that also depends on how big the mod list is. edit: forgot there was a wiki page for performance so here it is. Yes, thank you for the reply. I’ve tried clearing and optimizing everything, but for some reason the issue still persists. It really feels like this is not a performance problem. Instead, it feels more like a ping-related issue, even though it’s a singleplayer world. I’m experiencing the same behavior when hosting this exact world on a server as well. It feels as if there is some kind of latency or delay: movement feels off, interactions are delayed, and everything behaves as if there is ping — even in singleplayer.

Oftentimes if a mod has issues there will be comments noting the issue on the mod's page, but that's not always the case either. If you aren't sure if a mod is working correctly, it's best to try it out on a test world and see what happens. 3 hours ago, Foe Hammer said: granted mods can eat up ram so that also depends on how big the mod list is. It's also possible that a mod could have a memory leak, incompatibility with another mod, or some other lurking issue. The more mods there are, the more likely there are to be issues. 4 hours ago, _Vlad_ said: I’ve been playing on my singleplayer world for quite a long time, and it now weighs almost 8.5 GB. I'm not sure how much time "a long time" is, but if it's a world that has spanned multiple mod changes or game updates, it might just be time to start fresh. Most VS mods can be safely removed without breaking things, but it's never a guarantee that nothing will break either. Likewise, vanilla worlds can usually be retained from update to update without issue, but it's not unheard of for very old worlds to start having issues either. 2

Then it may be as @LadyWYT said and the world may be at "retirement age" lol. Try making a new world and see if the issue persists. If it does, I would recommend making a backup of your world, moving the data to a safe and separate folder like documents, and reinstalling the game fresh. If that fails, then only other option I know of is putting in a support ticket and or head over to the troubleshooting forum/discord. If the issue does not persist with a new world, then it sadly is most likely the world itself, possibly due to corruption and or buildup of errors from so many updates. And unfortunately I know of no way to save a world from this, that said that does not mean there is no way, I just do not know if it is possible with my limited knowledge. You could try, after making a backup, loading into the world with no mods installed and see if that forces it to "fix" itself, though that may also kill that specific save hence the backup. I do hope something works and you are able to save your world as I know losing that much progress and effort can hurt. That said, a fresh start can be refreshing and open you to new experiences and adventures, especially if your world is multiple major versions old. 1 1
