Ubuntu 24.04, I've got the game installed and working, but I can't figure out how to install the script to run the game with the shortcut. Right now I have to go into the download files and startup from there. Brand new to Linux and surprised I got even got this far lol

Nice work getting that far!

Probably the easiest way would be to open a terminal, drag and drop the install.sh script into it, then hit enter.

Nope, I still get a "Failure to launch Vintage Story", and "Failure to change directory "run.sh""

Might need a screenshot of your terminal because that is

not immediately obvious what's causing that or where those are even coming from

Like @Diff said, congrats on getting that far! I am on basically the same journey as you, also Ubuntu.

What I did is went and starred the executable in the download folder so I can just go to the starred tab in files and launch the game from there.

I will report back here if I find a better solution and no one has given a better answer.

There is an option to install the flatpack available on flathub it's so easy, there's no need to go in and do all the old extract and chmod +x and ./Vintagestory or whatever the file is...  The flatpack installs the launcher icon right into your apps menu and just does everything, so it's easier than windows even :)

Note to anyone else who encounters this issue in the future, flatpak or not: if all else fails, you can make a desktop entry yourself. It should look something like this:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Categories=Game;
Name=Vintage Story
Comment=Uncompromising wilderness survival sandbox game
Exec=/usr/bin/vintagestory
Path=/opt/vintagestory

Just replace Exec with your game's binary file and Path with your primary game folder, then save it to wherever your desktop files are. For me it's /usr/share/applications/vintagestory.desktop
