Nayah Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Hey, I'm trying to find some amethyst crystals but cant find any. I explored mines and only found olivine or quartz crystal. Do someone know a way to find/locate them? near iron deposit maybe? doing more mines until i found some? thanks!

I think amethyst may show up in the density search's prospecting data given that rhodochrosite or whatever it is does, but I'm not entirely sure. The best way to find it though, I think, is to go poking around in quartz veins. Sometimes quartz will have little geode pockets containing pretty crystals and whatnot. I can't say I've ever found amethyst like that, but according to the wiki that's how it spawns.

I've found big quartz crystals and olivine crystals in such geodes; other crystal types are much more rare. 1

No, it won't. Rhodochrosite is a regular ore, while amethyst is a vug which generates using a separate mechanism (it's just a structure, technically). 9 minutes ago, Nayah said: i've only found the crystals right on the walls, so i thought you have them this way. Yeah, they're the same thing. If you've found them in caves, that's probably because a cave happened to go through a vein. Big crystals generate within vugs. Amethyst vugs only generate within underground quartz veins. I'm not sure what "underground" exactly means here and if they have any additional generation requirements, but there doesn't seem to be anything else in the JSON definitions. For the best chance to find amethyst, you should just search through underground quartz veins (ideally thicker ones), presumably by digging tunnels every three blocks within them. You may also be able to find a bunch of gold and silver this way. Do note, though, that amethyst is the rarest of all the crystals, so it's not gonna be quick and easy. 1

As per the Wiktionary, a vug is "a small to medium-sized cavity inside rock that may be formed through a variety of processes." In the context of Vintage Story, it's just a small empty space (usually ~3-5 blocks in diameter, from what I've seen) inside of quartz or olivine veins, which contains large crystals. 1
