Question about Mod client vs server setup

I wanted to know about mod loading! I'm going to reference an obvious parallel here in modded Minecraft!

In Minecraft, you can have client-side mods and connect to any server no issue, as after all they are client side!

And obviously is a sever has mods, you need them as well to connect, but having extra mods doesn't stop you!

My question then is, using the client side mod Critcher's Calculator! If I download and have the mod running, but then open the game to internet directly, rather than using a server. Will this force other players to install the mod? or have it installed? As we have a large group save where some of us are playing very hardcore and some aren't! As such no gameplay changing mods, but I the host want to snag a few tools because I enjoy them! I'm just worried that if I install them client side, and then we play, till force them to have the mods and I don't want to upset people trying to play vanilla.

No, this mod would not be required as it is client side only. If you had "better ruins mod" then yes it would download since there are assets needed by both the server and the player.

If I am the server host, as in no server im using the open to internet function, would it allow just me and not the other people connecting to use client-side mods?

I don't think you can restrict client side mods on a open to internet. Maybe you can if you host a server but I have never looked into it.
