Someone made a mod and has said in the mod description that if someone wants to take over they should email them.

So I was wondering what I would need to do if I do plan to take over the mod and start working on it.

And I mean specifically for when I want to post my version/update.

You have to be a bit more specific. About what step(s) are you exactly talking about?

There's the option to add team members to a mod, including team members with edit rights, so you could release updates on the original page.

Alternatively there's also the option to transfer ownerships of a mod in its settings on the ModDB. That would give you full control over the mod page.

Of course that would have to be done by the original owner.

I was just asking if there are any additional community rules regarding the taking over of a mod cause I have the permission of the original author to take over the development, but i didn't want to miss anything that I might have overlooked. but if there aren't any except getting the permission and the edit rights / ownership then I will know enough.

I'm mostly asking for my personal peace of mind considering I couldn't find the info I needed during my search through the forums.

You should be good. You have already gone a lot further than the vast majority of people who just rip and re-upload mods without zero regards given. No plaintiff, no judge.
