What is the best way to remove or move lava source blocks I cannot use a bucket to move it ?

Is their a way to remove or move the Lava source block, I was building a dwarven inspired mountain home and ran into multiple lava blocks and I cannot interact with it constantly saying this is too hot to interact with. Any idea, I know you can just dump water on it. but id like to do something with the lava that does not involve fully destroying it.

 

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

In survival I'm not sure there's a way, other than water bucket. You could try placing some dirt or other non-combustible blocks into it, however, I'm not sure if that's possible to do in survival. The best strategy, I think, is to use creative to tweak the lava as needed, and then switch back to survival to continue playing as normal. That not only ensures that you can fix mistakes when making adjustments, but also ensures that you don't burn to a crisp by accident while making said adjustments.

Sadly I have no advanced controls like creative, its a public server I do not own, so that is impossible. 

I have found a way around the problem by getting my hands on the metal bucket from primitive survival and scooped it up.

 

Wish there was a way to do something with it in base game, but its probably a overlooked or not imagined feature that will never be further touched since lava hot mkay.
