Oak Tree sapling growth

I've seen huge majestic Oak trees that are simply enormous. I planted a couple of Oak Tree saplings and they've grown to a much smaller regular size and I'm wondering if they will ever grow even further to that enormous size or if those huge oaks is a one time deal during world creation.

They currently cannot be grown. Every one you chop down is gone forever (unless you rebuild it block-for-block by hand).
