Byrnorthil Posted May 9 Report Posted May 9 Was wanting to make a bug report about tong durability inconsistencies and found this thread already existed: https://github.com/anegostudios/VintageStory-Issues/issues/8232. Rather than having to round up all the edge cases where checks should be run, I propose an alternative solution which I believe would be more intuitive: rather than deducting durability on item pickup, deduct it continuously over time for each hot item held. I don't believe this would screw with game balance at all. Even a set of copper tongs already lasts practically forever under the current system, and a set of steel tongs that has been quenched twice has something like 7k durability, which you would have to actively try to break. So I think it would be fair to consume them somewhat faster. The main gameplay effects this would have are encouraging players with wooden tongs to be efficient with pouring out their crucibles (which btw don't deduct durability at all right now), and hopefully convincing players not to leave 500+ degree metal objects in their bags because they are too lazy to quench them... 4
cellar_whales Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 Yes, I was baffled it took ages and ages for my wooden tongs to wear out-- I've used up four pickaxes and two hammers (among other things) and it's still hanging in there.
sleeves Posted June 22 Report Posted June 22 Furthermore, hot items should probably be restricted to the hotbar (play on words unintended). 2
ruecharli Posted June 23 Report Posted June 23 Honestly, restrict it to the single selected hotbar slot (and have hot metal added automatically to that slot on item pickup, if available)
