Save multiple characters to be selected when joining new world

Is it possible to select from multiple previous characters?

 

Current behavior

In the character creation screen you can choose last selection

 

Expected behavior

You should be able to choose from previously created characters

 

Further information

When a new update comes out I often create a new world.
The first couple of worlds I made a new character each time.

At some point I created characters I liked a few times.

Now, when entering a new world I would like to pick one of the previous characters but I can only select the previous selection.

The previous selection is a different character so I now have to remember what that character looked like and I am not completely sure which is too bad because I really liked that one.

I tend to make a bunch of worlds until I get one I like and I always have to make my character over every time when doing that, so it would be nice for that as well.
