Zhakuy_proidoha Posted October 20 Report Posted October 20 I know that this ore is located somewhere at the 48th level. Could you tell me if there’s another way to find it, apart from using a geological hammer?

You can use other methods, and there are select ores for which other methods can be better, but for deep ores like pentlandite they are a waste of your time. Take a "density search" (first mode) reading every ~100 blocks or more. Stop once you find a "decent" or better reading for pentlandite. You can take a couple readings to the sides to check whether there's a better reading nearby, but there's generally no need to take readings more often than every ~100 blocks. A worse reading can be fine, but it will require more digging and in rare cases may have no pentlandite at all. Dig a vertical shaft downwards, all the way to the mantle. Ladders, especially rope ladders, are useful here. While digging the shaft, take a "node search" (second mode) reading every ~5-13 blocks. Pentlandite only occurs deep, but you can take node readings all the way through if other ores also occurs in the area. If you don't find pentlandite in this shaft, move ~25 blocks and dig another shaft. Repeat until you find the ore. Also, the wiki is fairly reliable for prospecting. Hanril Posted October 20 Report Posted October 20 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uZs7w89q4N0AoCiHOaiL153_LpoZ-m3y45LxF47xotg/edit?gid=0#gid=0 I looked up u/AnteVictoriam's spreadsheet and it looks like just igneous rocks, so andesite/granite/basalt and specifically peridotite for best results. Those need to be close to bottom, so surface rock layers might not tell you the whole story. Other than that, just get a readout and dig down with offshoots every 6-8 blocks (can't remember exactly what's the range on propicks).
