Dirt block texture messed up on Linux

All dirt block textures in the hand or inventory/chests etc show varying degrees of corruption (they are fine when placed) . I mentioned this on discord, apparently some have had this issue for a while and I'm only bringing it up here because I noticed something yesterday: I logged into a MP server for the first time and when I went back to single player afterwards the textures seemed right ie soil with green grass on top. Maybe that can help find the root of the problem?

VS 1.14.7, MX Linux 19.3, Radeon RX570 8gb, 16gb RAM
