Shane Main Posted February 23, 2022 Report Posted February 23, 2022 (edited) I know this might be a bit of a niche ask, but I think it'll go a long way as far as future-proofing the game. It appears that this game works excellently in ultrawide, but in super ultrawide aspect ratio (32:9 - 5120x 1440) there is unfortunately a bit of stretching/distortion on the edges. I've provided some screenshots of the best possible FOV value I was able to get in order to mitigate this, but this is a very common issue in games and from what I understand this occurs due to how the ingame camera is set up and how the viewing angle is calculated. You can see that the blocks in the center of the screen appear to be much closer when at the side of the screen due to this fisheye effect. This isn't super distracting since this is mostly on the periphery and is less noticeable with nearby objects but I thought it might be worth bringing awareness to it as this aspect ratio becomes more common. On the subject, there would certainly be a slight additional benefit to ultrawide users by locking the hud elements to a 16:9 aspect ratio or the option to move hud elements as having the minimap in the corner of the screen isn't ideal. What FOV did you set to take these screenshots? Usually this specific effect is the result of using too high a FOV, and occurs in all games. Wider screens should support a higher FOV without creating this effect. If you reduce your FOV setting to the point where this no longer happens, what number is it at?
Shane Main Posted February 24, 2022 Author Report Posted February 24, 2022 These screenshots were taking at 85 FOV
AJIADb9 Posted May 5, 2025 Report Posted May 5, 2025 (edited) @Shane Main, you can try using my utility to have it proper 16:9 (works for most games which supports "windowed mode") https://github.com/BigGreenDelta/Borderless-Window-Utility/releases/latest Don't forget to make UI scale a bit lower (10-13 will do the trick) Download the Borderless-Window-Utility.exe Optional: Create profiles.ini file in the same folder as Borderless-Window-Utility.exe Add this into it (it's what I am using) [Vintage Story] x = 1323 y = 0 width = 2474 height = 1392 From now on you can just double-click on Borderless-Window-Utility.exe any time you want your game's screen to be automagically set to borderless in the dead centre of your monitor (for windows 11 it will also be above the taskbar) Feel free to play with this tool and share your feedback!
