Some Fan-made Lore for Vintage Story

I have made some completely non-canon and fanmade lore.  Some will have evidence in the game files and most will be completely made up.

Spoiler

The Seraphim

The player is the member of a race called the Seraphim.  (This is evidenced by the textures for the player being called seraph-default, seraph-naked, etc.)  The Seraphim have blue skin, white hair, and are taller than humans (As evidenced by your player being taller than the Trader mob.)  In reality, the Seraphim are not supernatural, spiritual or magical beings, but are extraterrestrials from Saturn's moon, Enceladus.  Originally aquatic, the Seraphim evolved to take hold of the icy surface of Enceladus, where they practiced the farming of aquatic animals and plants.  Eventually a society evolved on Enceladus that was much more technologically advanced than that of Earth.

Spoiler

The Seraphim-Earth Wars

The Seraphim society experienced a calamity caused by rising methane levels in the moon's ocean, killing off nearly all aquatic life and rendering much of the moon uninhabitable.  After a failed attempt to colonize Europa, they turned their sights on Earth and made contact in 2045.  They had peaceful intentions of coexistence, but mutual distrust and miscommunication drove them to war.  They killed upwards of 95% of humans on Earth using biological weapons, the plagues.

Spoiler

The Plagues

Of all the biological weapons used by the Seraphim against humankind, the most destructive was the Locust.  The Locust are, in reality, not a species of grasshopper at all, but actually a heavily-modified version of the common dust mite.  They are much larger than their predecessors.  Inside the abdomen of the Locust is a virulent biotoxin.  When a human is bitten by a Locust, they are injected with the toxin, and after a painful period of several months turn into Drifters.  Drifters are aimless creatures, covered in white mold so thoroughly that it resembles fur.  After a while, they developed a hostile nature toward the Seraphim, possibly brought on by memories of when they were human.  They, in turn, hunted and ate 80% of Seraphim and destroyed their technology.

Spoiler

The Seraphim and Humans Today

In the universe of Vintage Story, the player begins their journey sometime around the year 6000, long after the events previously mentioned.  Most has been forgotten and lost to time, but humans and Seraphim still live in small villages scattered throughout the world.  The Seraphim in the year 6000 call themselves Vintage Folk, because they intend to build a society similar to the one that was lost long ago.
