Even if it's just cosmetic, having something that looks a step up from a pile of sticks on the ground is something I want. A simple stove for indoor cooking, and maybe something to heat the crucible as well. For a moment I considered the Forge as an option, but that would add some problems with its current UI/UX because right-clicking removes items from the Forge instead of opening up a cooking menu to let you put stuff in the crucible. Maybe a small iron grate like the bronze-age grill you proposed could be set on top of the Forge?

Ventilation might be a bit much in terms of impact on game mechanics, but the rest would be pretty easy to implement.

I wish it was easy, but I'm a doorknob who does not know how to MOD at all. I wish I could do it because I'd love this entire mod package.

VS is designed to make it very simple to add mods. You have a Mod Manager menu option. Click it and you'll have an option to open the mod folder. Do that. Download whatever you like from the ModDB -- make sure you search on the version of the game you're playing (I assume 1.21). Drag the zip files into the mod folder you opened from the game client. Click Refresh on the mod manager. Bob's your uncle.

ETA: Wait, did you mean writing your own mod? Derp.

If you want to deal with ventilation, I'd recommend Real Smoke. For an alternative stove, Kevin's Furniture linked above is very nice.

There's also Potash Making if you want to use ash from the cook fire.

Metal Cooking Pots, which are larger, though not as large as the one recommended here.

Dana Tweaks has an option to heat ovens with a firepit.

would add ash cakes (cooked on a flat rock heated near a firepit) and tandoor ovens (vase/urn shaped. the kind you make naan in);

having ice boxes and wood/coal gasifiers that could be connected to lights and/or ovens would be neat too;

Ventilation would require a smaller scale of block than VS has gone with; though having a system that allows for chimney pipes/tunnels to basically be drilled through otherwise solid blocks would be one way of implementing them.

Imagine your surprise then when you hear that chiseling is a thing in this game

I know chiseling is a thing but I'm talking about a system of pipes that would be registered by the game as "this is a chimney flue" and smoke can go through there without having an expensive (processor/cpu resource wise) thing going on.. unless you think a smoke system should be per-voxel calculating.

I'm thinking that a chimney could be set by sculpting a proper flue and crown (or making the brick chimney pieces we see in game)
