  1. Hello, it's been a few weeks, but we've been cooking. I wrote a suggestion for an additional "Friendly" face. Also, @Svarrmir and me are preparing a mod that will make the new faces slightly less menacing and somewhat resemble the old ones, but keep the new fidelity. We want to get used to the new seraphs, just with a bit less tension on our faces! However, since their might still be changes, we'll wait with the upload until version 1.21 is released. (Soon?) It seems that @ArtGnat is also working on a face mod, so if you're looking for changes, you might be interested in their plans, too. With multiple mods, everyone is bound to find what they are looking for. If you have any suggestions for such a mod, let us know. Have a good one!
  2. Hello there – In version 1.21, the seraph faces will receive an overhaul, a graphics upgrade so to speak. We've discussed this with other players in this thread, with varying opinions. One point of criticism is that the majority of new faces look somewhat tense, serious or even evil to some players. We would like to request the addition of another face (suggested name: "Friendly") that would be an option for players that seek a more amicable look for their character. Here's a suggestion for such a face, made by @Svarrmir. We think that this would be the best for the majority of players – no changes to the new faces and an addition for those unhappy with the emotions. Additionally, this JSON file contains the adjustments, currently as a change to the expression "Grin". friendly.json (Also, is it intentional that the new faces "Thoughtful", "Fierce", "Adequate", "Weary", "Caring", and "Determined" lack eyelashes on the lower lids?)
  3. I definitely think that they look much more refined, but as a side effect, many of them look more tense than before. Since your seraph has a rather tense expression to begin with, I can see why it's a clear improvement for you :) I made a little side-by-side comparison of all expressions, including the 9 new additions on the right. (By the way, this means that I made a mistake in my original post: The left face is Grin, while the right face is actually Kind, so they are not the same. On the other hand, the right face doesn't look very kind to me ...) Seeing them like this, I can definitely say two things for sure: The majority is a direct improvement, no question (look at Smirk ...! It's so much better), but on the other hand, no face looks particularly friendly, don't you think? Grin looks neutral, Kind looks quite intense, and Mellow and Caring look almost identical to Kind. In short, for me a change to Kind and Grin to make them friendlier would do, or alternatively a simple addition of something like Friendly/Happy. For those who can't get used to the new faces at all, mods would be the way to go – but I'd rather avoid that myself. I'm planning to write a suggestion for this small change. What do you think? On another note, by Jonas, don't switch around between versions with one of the new faces selected!
  4. Yes, it's the same character, same expression. I think bringing the eyebrows closer to the original version would help them a lot in my book; I think the other changes could grow on me, especially the mouth. Only somewhat related, but I think I should mention that I play with Express Yourself macros and exclusively in a group, so I emote a lot and see my seraph's face change every time. Hence why I might care more about them than others, especially those focused on singleplayer.
  5. Among many new additions and improvements, v1.21 will include changes to the seraphs' faces with the intention of making them visually similar to NPC faces. My feelings are ... mixed. I welcome the consistency, but the actual expressions take away much of the charm the seraphs had for me. The smile in particular, which I always found radiated friendliness, looks almost ... menacing? (Svarrmir kindly lends us a comparison of old & new – same expression "Grin" versus "Kind", I made a mistake here) I think it's mostly the eyebrows. The mouths, on the other hand, look much better now. But before going all reactionary and immediately taking this to /Suggestions or modding them back, I'd like to hear the opinions of others. Will it be an improvement? Do you prefer the old faces? Or do you feel that it's not much of a change at all? Cheers!
  6. One year (and a day) ago, @Svarrmir and I started up our first world in Vintage Story together, so today seems like a good opportunity for us to share our experiences and satisfaction with the game. We used to play Minecraft for a long time, but in recent years, we became unhappy with the general direction the game and its development have taken. And since we both had heard good things about VS, we decided to give it a shot. We did not regret it! Our Vintage Story adventure definitely made it our GOTY 2024. Where to begin? The gameplay is just to our taste. In that certain other game, we were used to everyone doing their crafting, mining and farming on their own. The most amount of team play were joined travels and occasionally sharing ores and food. In Vintage Story, within the first days we already started to divide the tasks. On a VS homestead, there are fields to sow and harvest, animals to tend to, food to prepare, hides to tan, ores and alloys to smelt, tools, weapons and armor to smith ... I haven't played a survival game that made working together as valid as this game does. Generally, the game already feels very polished. (We often laugh at the "Early Access" disclaimer in the menu. It does not feel like Early Access.) It runs perfectly (out of the box on Linux), modding has never been easier, crashes and bugs are few and far between and the beautiful graphics make exploring the world a magical experience. I'd also like to add that we've grown to love the seraphs. Express Yourself and gesture macros really added to it. (To be honest, we're now used to going "Whooop~" whenever we shrug.) We were already very satisfied, but exploring the first story location is what really got us hyped. We went in completely blind and allowed ourselves to be fully immersed, so in case you haven't seen the first story location yet, I highly recommend avoiding the spoilers! To wrap that up, we are definitely looking forward to the next story updates! There is more to say, but to keep this readable, we'll leave it for another time. Thank you so much for Vintage Story, and have fun to all players! Sormiel & Svarrmir Bonus picture (no spoilers)
