Haha, yep, definitely had this also since 1.2. The thing is I actually learned to love the VS darkness that makes you blind without a torch. Though I still never had the pleasure of sailing. That must be frustrating in pure darkness with all the little islands. The picture you posted is actually what I see most of the time at around 3-5 am. Definitely funny and it reminds me of ugly omni-present universal lighting from the old Unity3D days.

Funny thing regarding no night spawns. I was so used to rifts floating around my home without anything coming out, that I just worked through the nights for months without worries and suddenly, yesterday (~September) BOOM, despite calm rift activity, one rift lingered in my garden and all kinds of mobs were sticking their heads through my doors. Then one of these dart throwing things spawned right in my little house. Luckily I had built two doors, so I escaped to a nearby trader. Now, there are spawns more often whenever a rift is around. Probably due to the nights getting longer. EDIT: Thus longer phases of "true darkness" with a dark enough light level.

Haha, never had the instant darkness glitch happening in the middle of the day, but that would be a cool idea for a nice, creepy event. Like a temporal void event when you get close to certain areas or remnant devices. Paired with the new mobs... Yeah, I guess you are right. Also, with so many reported issues that need attention, I don't blame the devs for leaving some systems in a semi-working state. I guess it's the only way for them to maintain some breathing room.

Hi, did anything change in v1.2 regarding night time brightness? After starting a new game on a fresh vanilla v1.20.3 installation, I noticed that (every night) 1. the transition from the evening ambient light to the typical VS pitch black darkness happens in like 2 seconds. 2. around midnight the dark ambient light becomes brighter to the point where I can see everything and no torch is needed. 3. there are no hostile mob spawns at night, even during high rift activity (in 30 in-game days). Possibly a result of the messed up light level? I already posted a bug report on the VS github page. Does anyone else experience this?

Very nice! It looks quite creepy and menacing. I hope this won't be an exclusive temporal storm spawn. I could imagine it being blind and deaf, reacting to ground vibrations from sprinting/jumping actions nearby. It would then move to the source and attack the target if it is in "smell" range. May be it could be distracted by throwing stuff around.

I just love how unforeseen things can happen in this game. Just like that one time when a wolf, instead of losing interest after following 10 meters, suddenly chased me through the night for several hundred meters all the way back to my place. It hit me twice and almost had me, may be that was the reason. Either way, it's nice to see that the AI isn't quite as monotonous as I thought.

So I rebuilt that nice ruin that initially looked like an old medieval stone bridge. Winter arrived and the ruin had grown into a mini castle with only one way up. You had to jump from one block over a gap onto a higher block and then onto a ladder three blocks above. I felt smart and safe. Until that one winter night when I parked my character in the yard under the starry sky and switched to my second monitor to pass the time while reading some VS tips, when suddenly a loud roar almost gave me a heart attack. My first bear attack! That thing just laughed at my oh so clever entrance, climbed up to me and chased me around my home. I was filled with pie, thus survived 2 hits from this murder machine. With only one health segment left I managed to hide in my kitchen. The bear then lost aggro, climbed back down and headed toward my lovely little pen containing 2 pigs and 2 chickens and tried to kill them by punching through a 1 block thick, 2 block high wall of logs with fences on top (to no avail). I quickly knapped 4 flint spears, sprinted from the kitchen to the castle edge and started hurling those spears at it. Smart as I am I forgot to remove the ladder first, but I managed to kill it before it was able to hop on it, but ONLY because it took additional damage from the spears stuck in the ground. *bing b-bing bing b-b-b-bing bing* The lesson I've learned: Extra safety measures against bears are vital! What was your most memorable encounter with a bear?

Structures and Good Progression (This Game Does it Right)

The best I found during one of my game starts was a copper pick and a copper shovel from one vessel. I think it's cool that you can get lucky and be able to skip some of the linear progression early on. -
I guess I understand your confusion. I wasn't very clear in my opening post. I probably never need to take a single item from a stack inside the inventory to put it into the crafting grid or into a container. But it's useful the other way around, whenever I need to transfer one or a few items from a container to the crafting grid, e.g. for a quick torch or a flint tool.

It's quicker than holding a stack, right click-dropping a certain amount and then putting the stack back to where it was.

I couldn't find anything via Google. Can you take a single item from a stack or is stack splitting and right click spamming the only way at the moment without using a mod?

Definitely! I was really lucky that a reddit user in an Empyrion subreddit mentioned how he stopped playing EGS and Space Engineers months ago after he picked up Vintage Story and wasn't able to put it down ever since. I've only been playing this game for a week or so but I can very much relate to this.

Hello, this is my first post on these forums. Just wanted to say that this game is awesome in every way! Thank you, VS team and contributors, for this great experience! And Kudos to whoever created the very catchy title song. It's hard for me to start the game when I hear it.
