I know this is super old, but I don't see anyone being specific on how to 'join' a running LAN game.
Open the firewall port via your router, allow traffic through you firewall via windows. Run VS on PC1, get exact name of world. Open to LAN
Run VS on PC2, join multiplayer, add server. type exact name of world, add IP from PC1.
When I say exact I mean that.. it's case sensitive.
Lots of game today don't require this kind of mess to only join via LAN. I would hope the devs would address and simplify this
