  1. Interesting take. All I was saying is the people who can't fathom the angry peoples reaction might benefit from looking at the situation from a different perspective. I said nothing to imply parasocial attitudes or addiction. I'm just asking people to try looking at things from a different perspective. I did not mean to imply that having a lot of posts is bad. Just that that level of engagement with the game gives them a different perspective from people who do a playthrough once or twice a year. Nothing in my post is a "call out". My post is a call for people to think about the other side's perspective and some of my thoughts about where I feel like other peoples heads are at. Honestly I feel like I'm being parasocial, because I'm so invested in what the dev team's reaction to this incident is Edit to add more thoughts: I'm not criticizing people who can't imagine their future without VS, honestly I'm a little envious. I seriously love this game and wish that I hadn't spent the last week worrying that I might have to give it up. If anyone is addicted it's me.
  2. What a totally normal reaction to empathy. It's so asinine but you went ahead and said it anyway. Why are you so hostile?
  3. A lot of the people ardently defending Anego have thousands of posts on this forum. It's like making a single game a huge part of your identity makes it hard to have perspective on this. Y'all need to look at things from the more casual players of VS perspective. VS isn't a major part of most of our lives. Sure I've played several hundred hours, but I don't think about VS every day. I love the game and it sucked to think I might never play it again, but depending on how Anego handled this situation I might not have. Personally I think the initial statement was pretty milquetoast and intentionally omitted the fact that there were innocent mods caught in the crossfire. The recent additions have mostly solved my problems with it. I'm not going to try to get a refund for the 4 pack I bought for my family though one of my family members has already completely written the game off over this and I can't blame them. If Anego had just condemned Maltiez's actions and behavior outright instead of trying to minimize what happened they would have been satisfied. No one needed to be fired. Just a clear communication that his actions were wrong, and Anego does not agree with them. Some of you cant even imagine a future where you don't play VS. There was no chance you would put the game down. Whatever Anego said. You're more worried about how the next update might come slower if there is one less modder turned dev working on the game. Try to understand the majority of VS players don't have this same perspective.
  4. But the fire isn't out. THIS is the fire. They could put out the fire but they have chosen not to. Personally I don't care if they keep him as a silent dev. I'd be perfectly satisfied with him being booted off the ModDB and kept as a closely watched contributor. I believe Anego would not put something malicious in the game. What I take issue with is the wording and tone of their official statement. He was unequivocally in the wrong yet they defend his actions. The whole thing reads like they are doing (as a group including maltiez) what they think the community is forcing them to and they would rather not have to do it at all. They've omitted actual facts from the statement regarding false positives from his "anti-cheat". Honestly I would be happier if they had said nothing at all. Before I could believe they also thought it was wrong, now I know they don't.
  5. This is correct. Unfortunately for all of us this is NOT the best way to personally attack a cheat dev you don't like. Which it seems was maltiez's goal. It seems he did not care about possible collateral damage or the possibility of community backlash. Looks like he wanted to attack this person so he did the best thing he could come up with regardless of the negative results.
  6. Maltiez lit VS on fire and for some reason the Dev team is mad at the people shouting please put out this fire instead of the guy that lit the fire. This is what I don't get about this whole thing. Maltiez is the person who put their project at risk. He unilaterally decided to do this thing, and as a result half the community is questioning their support of the game. Why are they defending him instead of the game? Unless there is something we don't know going on behind the scenes the official reaction makes no sense to me. Is he really such an important part of the team that they have to just take this backlash because they couldn't continue without him?
  7. Obfuscating is an English word that means "to make hidden". It's not some word that programmers made up. It's used by programmers to describe a specific thing, "Obfuscating Code". Them using it in that specific way does not change the definition of the word. This mod hid that it was causing crashes and intentionally blamed other mods. That's the argument. Not the definition of obfuscating. But instead of engaging with that fact you are bogging the conversation down with this dictionary junk. Do you think it was right to blame other mods, potentially causing other mod devs to waste their own time troubleshooting crashes that had nothing to do with them? Do you think it was right for Anego to ignore that in their official response? How do you feel about them completely omitting the fact that the only reason any of us even know this happened was because an ordinary mod dev was wasting their own time troubleshooting crashes caused by ConfigLib's janky unsolicited and undocumented "anti-cheat"?
  8. Not mentioning the false positives when they are the only reason any of us know about this is a choice I guess. Trust is broken, obvious lies in your mea culpa is crazy.
  9. Undeniably VS has lost out on some funding because of this situation but I'm sure the game will be fine. All they have to do is come down hard on this person. If they back him up and act like nothing bad happened the game will probably be a pariah. People acting like he's had access to the whole game and put a virus in it are misinformed but that's because there has been no public statement. They only have screenshots of Discord posts and Reddit misinformation to go from.
  10. It forces me to carefully track satiety anyway. I have to carefully make sure I never eat a pie that will be partial to avoid dropping stacks of pie on the ground and losing them. Nine times out of ten when I do end up with a partial piece I just throw it on the ground anyway. By the time I'm making pies I'm not worried about the ingredients that go into a single slice. The problem I'm worried about is losing 17 slices in the wilderness while I'm exploring because of the way the game handles partial pie and a full inventory.
